07.08.2024 - 16:53I found this place while driving southbound on Old Seward. Brewed Awakenings can be very tricky to fine since they are a little ways from the road in the parking lot of Alaska Industrial Hardware between International Airport Rd and Dowling St. The employees here are very friendly and they recognize their regular customers when they pull up to the drive-thru window. They have an extended menu of espresso drinks with the conventional selections of Lattes, Cappuccinos, and Mochas but they also have daily specialty drinks as well. I decided to go with the featured drink called The Buttercream Dream Mocha with butterscotch and caramel. The wait only took a few short minutes and the barista engaged in friendly conversation with me while she was making the drink. The Mocha was delicious with a smooth coffee taste punctuated with a noticeable amount of butterscotch to complement the creamy cocoa perfectly blended in. There are also a varied selection of food items like Muffins, Cookies, Brownies, Breakfast Sandwiches, Sausage or Bacon Burritos, and Stuffed Pretzels. A punch card is offered on your first visit where you get a free drink after the 9th purchase. Their Facebook page will provide a different specialty coffee drink every day. One of the better coffee shops I've been to in the South Anchorage area.

03.08.2024 - 23:07I came by recently to do a coffee run for myself and my co-workers. AK Sweet Cup is a coffee hut located on the corner of Muldoon and 16th Ave. just down the road from Fred Meyers going southbound. The employees here have always given me a warm greeting since I started coming down here to pick up drinks in the middle of the work day. The wait times are only a few short minutes especially with cars lined up as they made the smart move of having two baristas when it gets busy. For my most recent visit, I ordered the Iced Dirty Chai Tea with the Spice Blend and a co-worker requested a Raspberry White Mocha with soy milk. The tea was delicious and refreshing with the Spice blend adding an equal balance to the sweetness. My co-worker enjoyed her drink saying that the right amount of Raspberry flavoring was used and enough soy milk to keep from being overly sweet. The specialty coffee drinks change daily from a Marilyn Monroe (coconut, vanilla, and blueberry) to a Nutty Irishman (hazelnut and Irish cream), each available in a latte, mocha, or white mocha. Punch cards are provided for new customers on their first visit with a free drink after 9 punches on the card. This is also one of the few coffee huts that stays open until 7PM from Mon.-Sat., 5PM on Sun. This location was robbed a few months back and I make it a point to visit them as much as I can to show my support for the business and their friendly employees.

03.08.2024 - 11:57I decided to stop here for an iced coffee after training at a work field office in Mat-Su for the day. This Perkup Espresso is kind of tricky to catch as it sits below a hill on the eastbound Parks Highway on the corner of Industrial Dr. and Old Matanuska Rd. If you're going at a significant high rate of speed on the road, it may not be a good idea to come at a sudden stop to turn right especially since this stretch of the highway is already on the outskirts of town and cars tend to move faster in this area. The hill leading down to the coffee hut from the highway is fairly steep and can pose some problems for motorists in the winter especially if there is ice buildup on the incline. As I pulled up to the drive-thru window, the barista gave a friendly, but unenthusiastic greeting as she prepared to take my order. She could've been tired and stressed out from a long workday so I didn't really think much of it. I ordered a 24oz. Iced Americano with sugar-free Amaretto and heavy cream. I figured this would be an ideal drink for the long, hot commute back to Anchorage. As I drove down the highway, I took a sip and was immediately disappointed. The drink was flat and flavorless with little emphasis on the Amaretto and even the coffee itself. It tasted more like ice water with a little flavoring rather than a coffee drink. There was little point in turning around to get another drink as I reached the cutoff to the Glenn Highway heading to Anchorage. I normally don't like to leave negative reviews but after a long training day and the hot sun baking the interior of the car, I was hoping for a refreshing drink to make the ride home more enjoyable. I decided to keep this review at two stars rather than one on the presumption that it could've been an off day for them just like any other place. I'll give these guys a second chance the next time I'm in the area.

01.08.2024 - 23:15I came down here on a whim a few days ago for lunch. Table 6 is located in one of the strip malls lined up along Denali St. between 36th Ave. and Benson Blvd. across from a vacant building that housed the old Johnson Tire Center behind Century Cinemas. I was really glad that I had placed my order online about 10 minutes before taking my lunch break at noon. Otherwise, I would've spent the entire lunch hour waiting for my order without placing one online. The wait I was told would be about 20 minutes from the time I called at 11:50. I figured this would minimize the wait time when I leave at noon and only wait for a few minutes before my order was ready. The restaurant was busy and packed for the lunch rush. The dining area itself looks very much like a sports bar with TV screens lined up around the walls which makes this an ideal place to catch NFL games on Sunday. The employees were friendly but obviously very busy with the amount of customers they were helping. I ordered their Famous Wings for lunch which came with a spicy BBQ glaze sprinkled with sesame seeds along with celery sticks and ranch on the side. What was supposed to be an order ready by 12:10 became a race against the clock as I sat at the bar and waited. 12:20.... 12:25.... The last thing I wanted was to eat my lunch and head back to the office immediately after finishing with no time to relax during my break. Finally, the wings arrived. I decided to order a Diet Coke to go with the wings. (Customer, beware. They will charge you $4.00 for a small 12 oz. cup of soda for a to-go order. Unbelievably, this was the only size they have for cups. Save your money and get your drinks at Walmart or a nearby gas station at a fraction of the price. It was 12:40 by the time I got back. The wings were delicious with just the right amount of spiciness. Despite how good the wings were, it hardly justifies the wait time especially when taking a lunch break for an hour that seemed to go by in minutes.

28.06.2024 - 07:11Visiting this Starbucks has always been a pleasant experience from the customer service to studying time. This location is across from Target and next door to Xalos Burrito Express off of 100th Ave. and C St. in a new, not-fully developed strip mall. The seating area is by far the best of all the Starbucks locations in town and crowding as well as noise has never been an issue here for me. The tables and chairs are spread out far apart to utilize the most amount of space they have and there are plenty of outlets available along the counter seats by the window, the counter by the coffee machines, and the high tables against the wall for your portable device. Employees here are very friendly and eager to help and they know how to make a good cup of coffee especially with the Starbucks Reserves, coffees that are from various countries like Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Jamaica, and Indonesia to name a few (the only Starbucks location in town that sells these premiere coffees). I decided to get a 16 oz. Congo Lake Kivu blend and a Dark Chocolate Sea Salt waffle cookie by Rip van Wafels imported from Amsterdam, Holland to complement the drink. The Congo blend was strong yet smooth. Adding milk or cream was unnecessary for such a fine blend. The Reserves are the types of drip coffees that Starbucks needs to promote rather than the regular drip coffee which is well known for the bad aftertaste that lingers in your mouth for awhile. The Dutch waffle cookie was delicious and a great choice for an afternoon snack with the coffee. Pastries are the same as in any other location, but there were some interesting additions I came across since the last time I was here. They now have an eclectic mix of snacks which includes dark or milk chocolate bars containing pieces of bacon or potato chips inside, gummy bears made with blackberry hibiscus, gluten free turkey or beef jerky, and puffed apple snacks which closely resemble popcorn. As someone who is a stickler when it comes to seating space and the noise level, this is one of the few coffee shops that is ideal for studying and reading for a couple of hours in a town that has too many cramped and noisy cafes to stay in for an extended amount of time.
