Kobuta saved us on New Year's Eve when many other restaurants were closed. It is a relatively small restaurant, with an interior that could fit to a fast food place. However, the open kitchen and the chef personally finalising each dish at the counter were signs that we landed somewhere good. The kitchen is influenced by Japan, but you also feel its European roots. Appetizers and main courses (I recommend the duck) were amazing, the feedback on desserts was a bit mixed with the goat cheese cake being the winner. The service was fast and good, and we loved our dinner.

Contraban is located in the lobby of a small luxury hotel in downtown Barcelona. We came on a Sunday evening, when most places in the neighbourhood were quite busy, but Contraban was rather empty. In combination with the wide spacing of tables, we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere in the stylish room. Service was very attentive, and gave us good recommendations on what to try from the menu. We shared most dishes, and were very happy with the experience. They have a list of rather unusual natural wines, not expensive, and we took a bottle for 25 Euros, a fair price.

The restaurant is on the walkway along the river Passer, just behind the walls of the old city, a bit of a hidden spot, not directly reachable by car, but just a nice 10 min walk from the center. The setting is very romantic and quiet, and we found the service excellent. Wine-by-the glass is offered by the knowledgable owner who picks frequently a new bottle from the cellar to match the individual food and preferences. The food is very good, not star-level, but very tasty. Prices are indeed a bit elevated, but for the excellent wines and food we got, they are worth it.

We stayed at the domaine and had dinner on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is very cozy, there is little in terms of decoration, but the setting is nice anyway. You can also watch the kitchen through a window. Service was attentive and excellent, and also very knowledgable about suitable wines. We went for the three course menu for 55 Euros, and excellent value as we also got 3 more intermittent courses on top. We could not have eaten more. The food was absolutely excellent, both in terms of taste and presentation. I especially liked the chocolate creation for dessert and the Angus meat with coffee sabayone. Overall, this place offers excellent value for money.

We walked right from the train into the village, and stopped for dinner here. They have a large, protected terrace which felt just fine on a slightly chilly summer evening. We encountered very friendly and quick service, and were very happy with our food a fresh local fish and a Wiener Schnitzel, which both were of excellent quality. The Schnitzel was huge, and came in two servings.

Bindella is a family that owns quite a number of restaurants in Zurich, as well as a wine distributor. They are focused on quality, and you also feel this in Winterthur. There is a great wine list, with four good wines by the glass as well. The food is similar to what you would get in their Zurich restaurants, upscale Italian with home made pasta and nice meat. Service is very good, with attention to detail. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, in some areas tables are a bit close together, but what I mostly missed was a bit of light, as the premises extend far into the back of the building. A nice place to have a good time in the center of Winterthur's old city. Prices are ok, for Swiss standards.

We spent a wonderful evening with a five-course menu. The restaurant is located in a former shop on the ground floor of an apartment house. The interior is somewhat minimalist in style, but it felt comfortable, especially as the distances between the tables are quite large. We were greeted by Damien personally, who took the menu order and later returned to check if we were interested in the great selection of cheese on his tray. The food was excellent, a composition of different styles and notes, and each of the courses was remarkable in its own way. We drank a bottle of local wine, a very good recommendation from the friendly waitress. Overall, the total invoice was CHF 340 for two, which I consider to be excellent for Switzerland.
