Brought family to pick apples on a Sunday in the fall. I grew up nearby and had no idea how popular this sleepy little area has become. The place was packed. I'd purchased tickets online, but there was no clear indication that there was a separate place for me to check in. In the tent there were several registers, but everyone (people buying tickets, people with advance tickets checking in, and people paying for what they picked) was in line together. Someone pointed to a man with a handheld device and told me to see him. Turns out he could check me in and give me my tickets. Just a few signs would have gone a long way. Or dedicating a register to check in, one to check out, etc. There's a lot to do here. There were places for kids to play, farm equipment to ferry people to more distant parts of the orchard, a restaurant, a bakery, live music. I waited nearly an hour to pay for everything my group picked. But my family got their autumn fun and lots of apples for pies and sauce, so it was a successful visit. Plan ahead and expect a long wait if you go during a peak season.

I 'm looking for my favorite local brewery, and 2nd Story is in the running. They have outdoor seating--my preference these days. They require vaccination for indoor diners and take it seriously for their own safety. The beers we tried were good. Something Revealing, a Philly sour, was right up my alley. King of Prussia, an imperial stout, was rich and malty. My husband enjoyed his smoky rauschbier. The burger was pretty good. Fries were good too.

The service at Second Empire in Raleigh, NC, was absolutely top-notch, and my husband and I had an amazing time celebrating his birthday there. Now, let me...

Anthony's is a reliable standby in the market. You can enjoy your coffee and pastry to go, indoors, or outside on their tables. They have lots of chocolates and coffees. I go there for chocolates when I need a gift for someone who loves chocolate and prefers classic flavors. I don't think you can find single-origin bars there, but that's not why I go to Anthony's. Think chocolate-covered pretzels or nuts or marshmallows. Or truffles, cherry cordials and nonpareils. They have pastries, too. I enjoy their sfogliatelle. But since I'm always on-the-go when I'm shopping on this block, I must admit I didn't even realize they serve breakfast and lunch! Dark, Italian roast coffee is the best way I can describe their drinks. They have a selection of beans for sale. On my last visit, there were carolers serenading customers outside. It was lovely. I stopped in for Fiasconaro, a unique, handcrafted panettone from Sicily. They carry it in several varieties, and it did not disappoint.

With the loss of Marian's (RIP--best paczki in town), I was looking for a good bakery that made their own pastries instead of bringing them in from NYC or something. I was told Baltic was my best bet. I arrived a couple of hours after they opened, and they were already long sold out of paczki. Not surprising since it was Paczki Day. But I spotted ciasteczka orzeszki, walnut-shaped sandwich cookies filled with thick caramel, that I LOVE. I would eat those over a paczek any day. I bought a pound of those and shared with family. They were delicious. I'll be back to try their paczki and other Polish baked goods. And I'll be sure to bring cash.

To this day, the jingle makes me immediately look around to see where the truck is. In this era of small-batch, artisanal ice cream (which I also love), I can still be just as giddy to get a small cone of Mister Softee soft serve. I moved away from the Mister Softee service area for years, and I missed it and the sounds of the trucks every summer. Growing up, we'd often drive past this headquarters building near my NJ home; seeing the ice cream truck on the roof still makes me smile. I even had the jingle as my ringtone for a few years. I never bothered with the novelties like the bomb pop, though I think I got an ice cream bar shaped like a cartoon mouse a few times as a kid. I'm pretty satisfied with a twist in a cake cone. Haven't tried a black and white shake in years, but I'm sure it would still be good.

Have visited twice once for lunch and once for dinner. French onion soup is terrific. Our burgers for lunch were great at good prices. Dinner was a bit more expensive but the quality and quantity definitely made it worth it. We had ribeye and chicken and waffle. Although we tried valiantly, we both left a bite or two behind. We were lucky a enough to have the same server, Aiegrie, both times. She is wonderful! Such a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Will definitely be making the short drive more often.

Would love to give a 10 star review. This place is exceptional. Amazing cabinet food, of course all gluten free, plus dairy free options and more. Yummiest food, great portions and reasonably priced. The crispy chicken bucket was insane. Definitely will be back!
