Restaurant bewertenDuring our annual visits to Vancouver, we sample many of Vancouver's wonderful cuisines, always looking out for new experiences. This year was no exception, and on the last night of our visit, we lucked out when we decided on Chicha after we had to cancel our original plans. It was the best of the several dinners we had.The ambience is no great shakes - a small, narrow outlet, with customers eating at a long bar or on tables surrounding it - and the place is very casual. The food was the main attraction and everything we ordered was, to put it mildly, wonderfully and delightfully tasty. The servings are similar to tapas style, so we ordered five different things: - Salmon Ceviche- Bolas De Yuca (cassava root croquettes)- Quinoa salad - Peruvian grilled skewers of chicken breast - Chicken empanadasEach one delighted us, and I told Mihajlo, the friendly server with a great sense of humor, after the first two servings that so far, they were 2 for 2. After the 5th was served and consumed, I remarked to him hat they had hit a grand slam homerun as far as we were concerned. To boot, we had a refreshing white wine to go with the meal from Okanagan (a Naramata Kanazawa Nomu) and ended the meal sharing a gluten-free tasty chocolate cake. This will be one place I will need to come back to again... and again.
Three of us went to Chicha for Sunday Brunch, arriving at it's opening time of 10:30 am so as not to have to wait in line later on (no reservations for Sunday Brunch). We were greeted cheerfully by staff, given menus and asked if we'd like coffee and/or water. Yes! The coffee kept coming as often as you wanted some. The atmosphere is fun. It's not intended to be fancy or an upscale restaurant. It is a neat little casual dining place decorated with an interesting collection of possibly Peruvian nick-knacks ? and one wall has drawings of the Nazca Lines. A really neat atmosphere. The food is a wonderful culinary creation inspired of the chef's trip(s) to Peru; not authentic Peruvian, but it doesn't claim to be. Go there to eat the creative tasty meals and not to judge it on it's Peruvian accuracy. Two of us ordered the "Huevos Benedict" (Two free range poached eggs on cassava root, zucchini, and corn cakes with aji amarillo hollandaise sautee aji amarillo and cumin scented baby spinach). Loved it!! Very filling ... we couldn't eat it all.The other ordered "Lomo Saltado", (Pemberton Meadows Farm Bavette steak, kennebec fries, red onion, peppers, tomato stir fry & added sunny side egg up egg. He liked it, very interesting, tasty, served on top of fries. He might not order it another time as the "fries" part was something he'd ordinarily chose. We all said we would definitely go there again and would look forward to trying some other neat things, including the intriguing cocktail list.
I ordered Chicken Breast Sandwich with fries and my friend ordered one poached egg in a bowel with potatoes, yams and fresh fruit. Wonderful fresh food and excellent service. ...very attentive server, no need to ask for refills for coffee or tea. lovely atmosphere and my friend loved it and said she would be coming back with her spouse. Only downside is looking for parking.
This was my first time to Chicha but was familiar with Peruvian dishes. The restaurant offered a nice variety of plates and all our dishes were tasty. My favourite is the ceviche.
Peruvian inspired food- what a great surprise. Eggs benny - for brunch, their version was amazing. Served over braised pork. Fruit was fresh and coffee, coffee and more coffee if you wish. Located on East Broadway in Vancouver. This little place has won local awards for standing out. Atmosphere appeals to the hipster crowd. Little ones may prefer somewhere else with just pancakes though. Friendly guys working made the experience as good as the food. Will plan to go for dinner as they have tequila flights here and freshly limed ceviche!
