Restaurant bewertenAs a local I really want a decent cafe in the town. Unfortunately Ma's is not it. I was delighted when they opened, so tried them with some issues that I put down to teething problems. After that every now and again I go in, and each time I leave disappointed. The food is basis enough, which is fine, but you are paying top notch for mediocre food, which is not fine. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but I'm hoping this is taken as constructive by the owners. Go to other places, see what's on offer and the prices being charged. Compare the quality with what is served in Ma's and sort your offering. You have very little competition, and could be a little gold mine.
I have had some excellent meals here, the problem with this café is the lack of consistency. I am not a particularly fussy eater, for the most part I just order straight off of the menu, rarely needing to add or subtract items from the sandwich/dish. Sometimes I will ask for more or less sauce then is normally given, they never fulfill this request. If you ask for more sauce they will continuously give you next to none. I am not exaggerating. I’m talking about receiving one sad smear across the side of the box/plate. They have burned the food on a couple of occasions and I had to visit the dentist on one occasion after a chip broke a small piece off of my tooth. If you are a regular customer or a local, I have noticed that they are much friendlier, otherwise the staff can be quite rude and standoffish. You might ask yourself why I even visited the café again. Honestly, it’s a shorter drive then it is to go to Kildare town or Newbridge and when the food is good, it’s incredible. Unfortunately positive experiences have been few and far between recently and I’m unlikely to give it another chance. I completely agree with the previous reviews in relation to the pricing. Toasties are €4.50, even just for a plain grilled cheese. Their pricing isn’t competitive and although I understand the current financial state of the country as a result of the global pandemic, it can not be used as an excuse as their prices were the same prior to this, not a happy camper at all and I’d much rather make the trek to Yum Yums in Naas. I definitely won’t be keen to return again until they learn to actually listen to what the customer asks for and write it down to ensure that it is followed through on.
Visited on Saturday with friends after a walk! I was met with a rude welcome, 10mins of a wait for 4 hot chocolates and 2 packets of tayto, but worst of all was the price 20e..... the hot chocolates were below average and given the price I was totally discusted.....
Ma's Kitchen is a real gem in a small town like Rathangan. Great coffee, food cooked to order, a seriously tempting range of sweet treats, and really friendly staff who have excellent taste in music-what's not to love?! They've adapted well to all Covid-regulations, whether sit in or takeaway, it always feels safe. Also, apparently they have the best babyccinos in Ireland according to my mini-connoisseurs!
I eat here frequently. By myself and with the family. Excellent coffee, great food and really friendly staff. They're doing so well to be open and adapting given the current situation.
