Weiterlesen Limited for dietary restrictions. Visiting friends and they booked a table here. I’m the only veggie in group but my friend booking was advised of a good vegetarian menu. I had the potato and aioli dip to start which was quite nice, potatoes a little greasy tasting but very crispy) so I couldn’t finish but it was pleasant enough. My husband had the gammon, he said chips were nice but gammon was dry, it comes with egg and pineapple but no other sides like yeh usual peas or onion rings I think you can buy these as sides, I didn’t check) Friend had fish and said that was lovely. Veg choices were the usual 5 bean chilli you get everywhere as a veg option so I didn’t want that, again! So my only other choice, Fresh Spaghetti, Tomato, Peppers Caper Sauce with basil. Can’t complain about portion size, it was enough for a family of 4! So much so that it went back looking untouched. I only managed about 6 mouthfuls. It was very bland and really soggy. No taste and this huge heap of spaghetti with one texture and no other flavours. Again, no garlic bread or side salad with it and at £14.50 I’d have expected at least own side with it. We were guests of our friend and he was paying and I felt it rude to say anything so just put the napkins over my dish hoping he wouldn’t notice the waste. Good service, lovely people, love atmosphere but not a dining place for vegetarians and most definitely avoid if vegan. We did ask if there was a specials board but were told “not tonight” a Friday night) I appreciate us veggies are often labelled as a pain in the bum for food establishments but it’s 2023 and would be lovely if someone could add a bit more creativity to a menu than a bean chilli or a boring pasta dish : we eat out often as a couple and with friends and I’m usually the only veggie in the pack and usually leaving hungry and disappointed. Weiterlesen As long term locals (going back to when The Chelsfield was known as The Heavy Horse) both my partner and I supported the campaign to save The Chelsfield as we value local business so always support important venues such as The Chelsfield particularly through these difficult times. We arrived at 12:45 and requested a table for two. Was told by a server (Red hair and Nose Ring) to sit to the left of the bar on any table without cutlery laid out where we would be served. We took the table immediately closest to the bar to ensure we could be seen by bar staff (2x front of house, one person serving, not particularly busy for a Sunday). We waited for 25 minutes with no service and so went to the bar instead to order. Nose Ring then said that no food was being served in the left bar and that we'd already sat down before she knew this. I asked why she hadn't though to tell us having seen us whilst going back and forth between the kitchen? Shrug of shoulders and no response. Really sh**y service. Instead had an excellent meal at Indian Essence. Would go to the Chelsfield for drinks where there is regular trade in the evening but with this kind of abject performance from Front of House would recommend other local options such as the Bo Peep or the Five Bells where the experience is always first class.

Weiterlesen We went in here mainly on a whim as it was right below our hotel room window. When we went in on a Wednesday night it was packed and no tourists. Then we saw the huge open fire and now knew why our room...and the hallway smelled so strongly of smoke. We each had the set menu, which was very good value at only €17. I had clams to start and they were amazing! My husband had the salad which sounded quite boring, but it was lovely as well with smokey lardons and warm goats cheese. I had the salt cod dish and he had the steak, which the hostess grilled right there in front of you. We're not much into puddings, but my coffee ice cream was really nice. And the wine was good value as well. Then the 2nd night many places in Fecamp seemed closed so we decided to return. What a complete change absolutely NO ONE there and I even asked if they were open, which the hostess said yes. Then the chef (who we assumed was her husband) started ranting from the kitchen and would not stop! It is a very small restaurant so we could hear it all and it was really annoying, embarrassing and made us very, very uncomfortable, so much that I went and told the hostess that we were leaving and when she kept saying it was okay, the entire time he never shut up. He obviously didn't want to be open. So in the end I told her that he was a jerk (as best I could in French) and that if he was going on like that, that his cooking would be rubbish and we didn't want any part of it. She convinced us to stay and it was only at that point that he finally shut up. The food was good but unfortunately my monkfish was well overcooked (and we couldn't blame him as it was done by her on the grill). Also, we didn't go for the set menu so it was quite a bit more expensive. So, overall the 1st night was a 4 for food and service and the 2nd a 2, thus giving them a 3.

We were met with a positive and friendly attitude and an insurance policy that they can deliver a court. We came back... in the evening and were thrilled with a delicious food and ecellent service. Menu changes that are nice, we would have come back the next day, but they were closed! worth a visit
