2021 Michelin Guide Singapore listed Pondok Makan Indonesia serves a fantastic Mee Rebus for $3.00. As the only Muslim hawker stall listed in Michelin Guide, the stall has garnered a cult following among the Malay community for being one of the best places for Malay food, it also sells satay, gado gado, mee soto and tahu goreng. The stall actually began as Indonesia Satay Soto in the 1960s, moving all the way from Orchard carpark to its current location at Queen Street.

A low traffic mall although well located and connected directly to Raffles City and City Hall MRT. Not certain what the mall is planned to be or positioned as but certainly it lacks identity with pretentious fake floral arrangements hanging from the glass ceiling trying its best to mimic some European Christmas market. Actually it’s has good restaurants at the arcade level especially the La Scala Ristorante which is managed by the Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore. Capitol Theatre is the most Instagramable cinema in South East Asia but is under utilised, maybe should just open as a normal cinema 7-days a week to attract traffic. The basement levels are rather disconnected to the street levels due to poor positioning of the escalators at a corner.

Built in 1983, the well ventilated Amoy Street Food Centre is a local culinary institution and their lunch crowd is a testament of that. With at least 5 MICHELIN Guide Singapore Bib Gourmand listings, the two-storey hawker is home to a wide range of stalls, hawking everything from curry puffs to modern fusion cuisine. Highly recommended but go between 900 to 1130am to avoid the crowds; no point visiting on weekend mornings as only a handful of stalls are opened.

Michelin listed Zhong Guo La Mian Xiao Long Bao 中国拉面小笼包 was established by Li Feng Cai and his wife who were originally from Anhui, China. Mastered the art of noodle making in Beijing and Shenzhen, the popularity of the stall can be seen from the long queues everyday, be prepared for a 30-min wait on weekends. Our favorites are the Guo Tie, pan fried dumplings aka pot stickers and the Szechuan spicy wan tons.

In 1995, Bugis Junction opened on the former “Bugis Street” by incorporating the old shophouses of Malabar Street, Malay Street and Hylam Street. They were rebuilt and weatherproofed, and the streets covered with transparent glass domes to make them part of a shopping mall. Now managed by CapitaLand, this is a good mall that you will find everything you need under one roof sitting at the intersection of 2 MRT lines. You have Starbucks, McD, Godiva, SingTel, Cold Storage and even InterContinental Hotel as part of the mix use development

A discount suburban mall with Daiso, brand outlets and decent restaurants. The basement has FairPrice Finest while there is a Golden Village and Kopitiam on the top floor. It’s a fast food and banking hub with McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, Four Fingers, Pizza Hut, Toast Box, OCBC, UOB and POS Bank within premises, and all conveniently located on top of Tiong Bahru MRT.

In the 1980s, Centrepoint was one of the prominent malls of Singapore, along with Wisma Atria, Plaza Singapura and Shaw House then. Paragon then was the ION or Shoppes @MBS with the luxury brands. Owned by Frasers Property, the mall has been totally revamped from the initial main anchors like Metro to a vibrant younger tenant mix which includes Decathalon, JustCo, Aston’s, Ding Tai Fung and popular Korean cafe, dal.komm COFFEE. With the last renovation completed during pandemic, the mall deserves a visit.

In its last legs as Keppel Club will cease operations on Dec 31, 2022 after being around since its founding in 1904 as a 3-hole golf club. During the Japanese occupation, Keppel Club was once their HQ but finally became incorporated in its present form as a social club in 1948. As Singapore’s oldest club in its original location, Keppel Club will make way for the Greater Southern Waterfront project in 2023. It has great views of the mangroves and catch it before it’s no longer there in a few months

Designed by DP Architects at the site of former Orchard Road open air car park, the industrial looking Orchard Central opened in 2009 with 12 floors above ground and 2 basement levels. Home to the 24/7 DON DON DONKI and UNIQLO’s flagship stall, there are many unique shops and restaurants in this mall but no luxury brands like at Takashimaya, Paragon or ION. Unlike traditional mall designs, a central atrium is omitted and this is really confusing and difficult to locate shops. It also features a 'super escalator ', which takes pedestrians on the street level directly up to Level 4. The mall is served by a total of 52 escalators (including 6 super escalators) and 12 glass elevators.
