Flew into Brisbane this morning and caught the train into Southbank looking for a quick brekky. Found this place nearby however on Zomato it said it was closed... Weiterlesen Flew into Brisbane this morning and caught the train into Southbank looking for a quick brekky. Found this place nearby however on Zomato it said it was closed on a Sunday. Happened to walk past the restaurant accidentally and it was open. Sat down and ordered coffee which was pretty standard however the food was superb. Nothing on the menu for a vegan however after a quick chat with the waitress, she managed to get the chef to show off his skills and prepare one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. A piece of sourdough topped with, grilled capsicum, fried mushrooms, onion, tomato and rocket. When back in this neck of the woods I'll definitely return.

Weiterlesen ...My meal was substantial with a creamy pile of scrambled eggs atop four triangles of toasted multi-grain bread with chunky sauteed mushrooms and a sprig of parsley on top. There was also a small pat of butter provided. B's avocado on sourdough included a pile of avocado chunks, roasted and fresh tomatoes, basil, crumbled feta and several rashers of bacon on top of two thick slices of sourdough. It was nicely presented but the kind of dish where you had to pull it apart and put it back together so that you could actually eat it.

Was very rudely told we could not remove pickles from the burgers. Decided to eat somewhere that could accommodate our horrid demands. Makes no sense. Our first visit to Bar Alto was amazing, my friend and i was served by a very professional waitress (she was tall with red hair, no name tag nor introduction) that really accentuated the ambience of the restaurant in the way she presented herself, the menu and in the manner she treated us. I had the ragu and it was stunning (that is something since i just returned from Italy back then). Naturally i couldn't wait to take some more friends there and try the menu again, but this time it was different. The same lady as in the first visit sat us down but served the tale next to us. There was a night and day kind of difference between how the guests at her table was treated and how we were treated. Our waitress was OK but a little less attentive and more casual (as if we were in a pub) which is fine, I found it interesting how something like that can take the ambience away. My main complaint is about the end of the night when we wanted to pay. It was a very busy night and my friends and I wanted to split the bill. We were told that it is not doable but my one friend didn't quite understand (it as hard to hear) and asked again. The hostess (not the same waitress) grew impatient and decided to split the bill in half for us (which made it more complicated because we were three people) the register froze and she ended up running from the one to the next with a fake smile growling at us trough her teeth. I heard her making sarcastic comments and I told her that she doesn't need to worry about it we will sort it out ourselves. She ignored me and continued to be rude not only to us but also to the newly arrived guests. I was so annoyed by then that I decided to leave her so she can suffer and split the bill while it was not necessary at all. She would've been better off not being rude and listening when I said it is ok. I may go back one day, but will not go when it is very busy because the restaurant staff can clearly not handle it. I am very sorry to give this review because i like the restaurant and believe it has the potential to be an affordable yet upmarket restaurant.
