There is a magic that imbues Malcolm Island that can best be described as quirky, and the Sointula Gallery and Bistro fits right in. Good food, wonderful folks, and after we ate, fabulous music by The Deserters featuring Richelle Andre. We loved it!

The decor isn't the best feature of this restaurant pseudo modern grey, cold, without much character) but the home cooked dishes will win you over. There is a large choice of menus, and everything is simply delicious. We tried the frogs legs of course, the garlic and parsley sauce is to die for and the legs were chunky enough. The menu we chose €28.50) came with a salad of sliced cured duck leg, enough frogs legs to eat your hearts content, a smallish potato gratin, a soft white cow cottage cheese with cream, and a dessert to choose from many homemade options crème caramel, crunchy chocolate cake, iced nougat…etc) It was a lot of delicious food and I couldn't finish… The waitress was struggling a bit as she was handling the whole restaurant singlehandedly, but apparently usually it is two of them. Wine we chose to accompany this delight was a reasonably priced Vacqueyras which held its place too!

I did not try the waffles, yet but they smell delicious as well. Anyway, I usually ask for a kids' portion as the sizes are pretty big. Another plus: Everything vegan is clearly marked, especially in summer there a wide selection of fruit. (Guys, if you add a vegan chocolate sauce, life would be perfect...!
