20.09.2023 - 04:18Recommended by the young women at the marble museum, this was our first choice for lunch. Parking outside was easy. We knew we wanted the famous Portuguese black pig and ended up with ribs. We shared and entrée and had some very tasty meat as well as rice and fries. The meat was a bit difficult to eat but almost worth the effort. We also had the best white wine of the trip so far and it came with its own chilled wrap to keep it cool. The good thing about sharing is that we had room to try a dessert, too. The flan was a good ending to the meal. Total cost was 15.65 euros.

03.09.2023 - 13:35This was our second visit for a lunchtime snack on an Alentejo road trip with some foodie friends. It is a typical, basic place, on the main road, you could go straight past and not realise you are missing a treat. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the stars are the Empadas (pies) which are the best all 4 of us had ever tasted. The first time we visited they had a variety in a glass cabinet, but this time we thought we were going to be disappointed as there were none on display. It turned out that a new batch was in the oven, so we had a drink and waited. Oh wow, it really was worth it! We had intended to eat in, but as they were still piping hot the lovely waitress put them in a box for us, even taking care to punch holes in the box so they wouldn 't go soggy. Off we went in the car, but it wasn 't long before we pulled off the road to eat them because they smelled so good. What followed was a series of groans reminiscent of that famous restaurant scene in the film 'When Harry Met Sally '. They really are fantastic, good pastry, kept their shape well, no soggy bottoms and the filling was sooooo tasty. Enjoy!

10.05.2023 - 06:15Had lunch at the counter and when the surly waiter handed us over to an English speaker, the service was excellent. The menu, all in Portuguese, was perfectly explained to us and we had the 2 recommended dishes. Baked turkey and roasted potatoes and Marisco stew. Both were excellent with good spices. 08.12.2022 - 15:51After a few years we visited our traditional favorite – and yes, we are locals and had great meals her in the past 20 years. Recently there was a change in ownership and the introduction of mandatory nonsmoking. Honestly, smoking in the nice dining room...was the reason why we stopped going there. We went for a seasonal lunch – starting with goose liver in a generous serving in an unexpected style. Then roasted goose as it’s this time of the year! Good “cut” and nice presentation. For desert we took the chestnut something and Marillenpalatschinken (Viennese variation of crepes) and experimented with flambé – did not quite come out as expected – but it was just fun to have a maître who was willing to go the extra step. Outstanding service! As suggested we opened a very nice and fairly priced bottle of red and added a glass of lower ranking red at the end. Then excellent rowanberry brandy (Vogelbeerbrand) and as a throw in by the management two nice grappa from Nonino. We though we had a traditional Viennese lunch – had my last Schnitzel years ago! I see a lot of reviews complaining about tourist style – that’s what you get if you order tourist style Schnitzel. If you want to go local – do go local!

07.12.2022 - 19:40I am now a regular in this place choice of food is really great. Stuff works great to keep buffet full, so even if you arrive later, you will still find trays full. I love their choice of sushi. I especially enjoy raw buffet:...the part of the buffet with raw things, which you combine on your plate and then give to the chef to fry for you. It took me some time to figure out all the tricks: you can pick up a paper clip at the table, beware that colors correspond to different sauces, the list of which you can find on a menu stand on your table. If you lock the clip completely, this means no sauce, so if you want to have the sauce, leave metallic wired part up(open)... I hope I could explain it well, but once you get there, you'll see what I mean. Also something I didn't notice right away was ice cream fridge, and fridge with small cakes and desserts I didn't realize that I could take stuff from there too. Stuff is mostly friendly, but this is not a rule. I think they became more friendly to me after I was there several times.

07.12.2022 - 05:52A group of six of us looking for somewhere to eat and I wanted to write this review purely because our waiter (I assume the owner) was so wonderfully friendly and accommodating to us. It was well priced and typical Italian food. Nothing fancy but...very nice and a good atmosphere. Would recommend.
