Restaurant bewertenWhile staying in a nearby agriturismo, we wanted to eat at a nearby restaurant like we always do. When returning from a faraway trip, we often opt for a local restaurant instead of cooking, so a good restaurant nearby is always pleasant. But this is not a good restaurant. We ordered gnocchi al Pomodoro and a calzone. Together with a litre of Coca-Cola. The litre of Coca-Cola was warm, while you would expect to have a cold bottle. The waiter replaced it with a more expensive small can of coke. Then the gnocchi al Pomodoro was delivered with too much salt in the sauce. When the waiter gave the calzone, there was too much mozzarella; it looked and tasted like glue. Then we found out that the pizza dough was salt less. My wife told the server that the pizza was not good and wanted another one. This one arrived with no salt in the dough and too much mozzarella, but also too much salt in the tomato sauce, which was precisely the tomato sauce of the gnocchi al Pomodoro. When paying for the diner. We had to pay both pizza although we clearly stated that it was a bad one. We were foul mounted because we brought it up and did not wanted to pay for the calzone because we sent it back. We had to pay for both pizza’s. Everyone can make a mistake but own up to it. Forgetting the salt in the dough can happen but do not try to mask it by adding more salt in the tomato saus. But the worst thing is to put the blame on us. While the chef made the mistake and not fixing the mistake. And my wife was a pizza baker in Italy. She knows what she is talking about. It was bad food, and served by people that do nog know how to treat guests. I do not understand why this restaurant has such high reviews. We did not experience it. By far the worst restaurant experience I had in the 30 years of coming to Italy.
Passing through Roccalbegna on a wet November day, saw signs of life and stopped for lunch. So glad we did. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. Fresh pasta, fantastic meat and cheese, all from a tiny family run place.
Found casually during a walk through the hills of the Maremma. great food, abundant, well presented. fresh and welcoming rooms. good price quality ratio. kind and attentive staff. Congratulations!
The restaurant serves traditional food at a very high level, from folk soup with mostly vegetables and bread to fine chopped liver
La Grotta is the nearest restaurant and pizzeria to our holiday home near Roccalbegna, so we do visit it often. We went three times this trip in both May and June. We always have a pizza and they are always great. When we first started going, ten years ago, it was never busy, now it is wise to book. This is, for us, a good sign, as it means the Roccalbegna area is thriving now with both locals visiting and tourists. La Grotta is not just a pizzeria but a trattoria too and Lucia is a fine chef and has transformed the place. If you go please leave room for her wonderful desserts too. See you again soon Lucia e grazie mille.
