Restaurant bewertenThis used to be the go-to fish and chips. But since Henry himself has departed this Mortal plain this place has gone downhill. Extremely busy at lunch time with the children from nearby schools who leave a trail to and from of garbage from their french fry purchases. A disgusting mess in our neighborhood. Not sure anything has been cleaned in here since Henry owned it and the original wallpaper is still on the walls from the 70s. The size of the fish you will receive is also hit and miss and usually quite greasy. Their chips are sometimes cooked sometimes not cooked again hit and miss.
Awesome fish chips! Halibut/chips, Basa/chips, and poutine are staples for the regular crowd. Certainly worth the drive for great traditional taste and it's inexpensive, too. Hardworking Asian owners are super friendly. Do try it!
For many years it was great and Henry worked head at keeping that way. Changed hands about 2 years ago and has gone downhill ever since. On my last visit the fish was small, the batter was like cardboard and the fries were soggy. Now I need to find another chip shop!
Bland and tasteless grew up eating from here every friday, and since Henry departed this world, well.. its not the same. greasy fries are popular with the kiddies, beware this place at lunch break time as it is swarmed with teenagers getting fries. the amount of litter as a result is just an insult to the environment.. forks, plates and napkins strewn all over the neighborhood are left like bread crumb trails between the school and here. the fish is heavily battered to the point of tasteless. not what it used to be and not worth the money.
My sister-in-law has brought home dinner a few times from this location and I think Henry’s deserves a review. The fries here are perfect, the gravy is awesome and the fish is in the best possible shape. Shape you may ask? Yes. The square shape allows for the best piece of battered fish. It provides crispy batter around the edges and a decent thickness of fish in the middle. Other pieces of fish that are cut in long strips have a lot of batter at the ends and very little fish in the middle. Hence the perfect shape fish. Not to mention the cardboard boxes that it is served in, which is wrapped in paper. Love it.
