J Marklee Toll Station - Markleeville

The owner of the restaurant is truly remarkable. Her love and dedication to her business and the community is inspiring. I have never felt so welcomed in a place I had never been to before. I didn't want to leave, and I know I will definitely be returning.

Sandy's warm greeting matched the cozy atmosphere of her restaurant, complete with a wood-burning stove. Despite its small size, we were pleasantly surprised to find three creative and delicious vegan options, as well as two vegetarian options on the menu. Located in the small town of Markleeville with only around 200 residents, this restaurant was a hidden gem. We tried their homemade vegan cheeseburger with avocado on a fresh roll, curry roasted cauliflower, and cherry roasted delicate squash with vegan chorizo. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. We can't wait to go back and sample their mushroom soup and homemade mac and cheese. (Updated review as of October 12, 2021)

The vegetarian sandwich was amazing and the wood burning stove added to the cozy atmosphere. I wish I could give this place more stars.

The food and service at this small, cozy restaurant were exceptional. The atmosphere was enhanced by a fireplace, adding to the charm. Every dish is homemade and mouthwatering. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant regularly, as the menu is always changing.

The outdoor tables at this restaurant are set on a charming lawn surrounded by large, ancient trees. It is a fantastic spot to enjoy drinks and appetizers, although they do not offer a full dinner menu. We tried both varieties of flatbread and they were delicious!
