Rascals Run - Lunenburg

This restaurant is the best choice in town for vegans and those with gluten sensitivities. The staff was very knowledgeable and clearly explained which dishes were vegetarian, vegan, easily made vegan, and gluten-free, offering a wide range of options. While they did have some Mexican dishes, many of the offerings were inspired by other cuisines, such as Indian. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the menu, so I can't recall all the different ethnic options available. I do remember it being quite difficult to decide what to order because there were so many great choices.

I share the sentiments of the previous reviewer regarding Lunenburg being a challenging place for vegan options. Although there are many listings claiming to offer vegan dishes, the reality is quite different. Thankfully, Rascals Run has come to the rescue. This casual Tex-Mex restaurant has a relaxed surf-punk atmosphere, adorned with Day of the Dead decorations on the tables and a surfboard by the entrance. Their large chalkboard menu features two vegan burritos. I tried the black bean house specialty wrapped in a gluten-free soft shell, and it was fantastic. The service was quick and attentive, and I felt that the meal was a great value. The only downside is that they don't offer any type of coffee on the menu.

I truly enjoyed my meal here—it was excellent, especially considering how challenging it can be to find vegan options in Nova Scotia. They offer two main choices for vegans, which can be made into either a bowl or a 10 or 12-inch burrito. I believe they also had a gluten-free option available, though I'm not entirely sure.

Menu has changed since I was last there, but I look forward to trying their latest vegan burrito! I’ve gone several times and it’s always been delicious. Love that you can order online in advance. A great new addition to the south shore!
