Restaurant bewertenThis place is hidden gem! I stopped in on Wednesday to order 2 sea food boils for Saturday sea food boils have to be ordered a couple of days in advance, I was also asked the time we would be arriving when I stepped inside the smoky aroma of the BBQ slowly began working on my appetite. I had to get a couple beef ribs! The owner and I spoke for a few minutes about how he has been tweaking his recipes and I tried a sample of his corn bread. The corn bread was excellent! It has a sweet and caramelized flavor that I assumed was honey, the owner informed me it was not honey but a recipe he has been working on. It is great! When I got home I unwrapped the beef ribs. These beef ribs were meaty. They had meat on the top sides, which I usually don't find on bbq beef ribs. The ribs were tender but still had the meat that tugs off the bone rather than fall off the bone. The flavor of these ribs was delectable. Smoky undertone check a rub that complimented the natural beef flavor check not drenched in sauce check yes I will be getting these ribs again. Saturday we get there and the owner informed us that the boils were ready, perfect timing. The last sea food boil we had been to was stormin crab, where we each had to order our own serving. The sea food boil here was almost too big for 2 people! Over 5lbs per boil!! Shrimp, crab, sausage, potatoes, and corn. The shrimp was tender and not over cooked. Everything in this boil was perfectly cooked. The flavor was well balanced, the lemon, garlic, seasonings and butter complimented the potatoes and corn. We got the second boil wrapped up to go there was no way we could even think about having another. It is making a great late night snack though!TLDR This place is great, don't think twice about coming here
First time there today and meeting Sharfi. Very gracious host and the food was delicious. We ordered the 5 meat platter to share between the two of us and we were stuffed. Everything was delicious but my favorites were the bbq beans and the pulled pork IF I could only choose two things. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon so I can try the tandoori chicken sandwich.
Bottom Line: A jewel of a BBQ joint tucked away on a lonesome stretch of south Coors Blvd down toward Isleta. Food is good to super excellent, since it is made fresh to order, not premade. Owner is solid gold. Definitely worth the drive!! Top Line: Monthly lunchly get together landed at Black Mesa BBQ this time around. I was initially daunted by its distance on the map from my winter quarters (westside mesa . That turned out to be a false impression. It took about 30 minutes door to door, so no worse than any trip to east side of the valley. Black Mesa BBQ is well within striking distance from anywhere in the Duke City. As soon as you enter the spacious interior through the front door you get a massive punch in the nose of smoke scent you know you're in for a treat, since that smokey note is the perfume of the BBQ gods. You also get a warm, friendly, cordial greeting from Sharfi, the owner, pit master, concierge, waiter, and chief bottle washer in the truest one man operation sense. Menu board is large in size, diverse in choices, and easily navigated, though choosing among the offerings can be a challenge. Samples seem to be a standard device for helping the selection process along, but also creating massive commitment anxiety since everything tasted mighty tasty. J chicken taster was an epiphany of hyper moist hind quarter meat with a sauce that started sweet ended with a burn. (insert your own comparison joke re: that sauce to a spouse, ex, or high school date here I eventually went with a beef brisket sandwich, ranchero beans, cole slaw, a piece of pecan pie (dessert of the day . I ordered a 50:50 mix of his sweet spicy BBQ sauces for the sammie. Sandwich bun came butter toasted from the flat top giving it excellent flavor. Meat was very tender for being sliced along the grain(see pic and plenty flavorful. Sauce was a nice balance of sweet spice. Ranchero beans were complex on flavor profile really rich tasting. I'd drive down again just to get the ranchero beans. Cole slaw was likewise very complex, with dill added to shift the taste well away from ordinary. Pecan pie had a high percentage of nuts in the filling, so that roasty nut note rode herd over the sweetness of the gel filling or the tender crust. Lunch partner got half pounder of brisket meat with BBQ sauce and potato salad on the side. He gave it all good marks. While the premises are pretty dated, the food and the hospitality are what counts and Black Mesa is delivering those in aces all the way. So hie thee hence to Black Mesa BBQ down there on Coors Blvd and get a really good meal at prices that are cheap for the quality of the vittles and a massive dose of sunshiney personality from Mr Sharfi. Your day will be better for it.
Commented on here before but I just wanted to say again your food is amazing thank you for taking time out of your day to serve many people. God bless you!
The pork ribs are my favorite with the sweet bbq sauce. There are many options for your lunch or early dinner meal.Prices are completely reasonable for this amount of meat too!Come on by, down the south end of the south valley, and they will give you a few sample bites to taste if it is your first visit.
