Restaurant bewertenThe good reviews keep coming and deservedly so, though with caveats. Firstly the food we received was great, considering it’s just one chef preparing for a dozen or so tables its very well managed. The duck breast was possibly the nicest we’ve all tasted….but there’s the first caveat, we all had to have the same dish as the menu is tiny, choice is not what you come here to receive. Two main dishes, my allergies only meant I could eat the duck, and my wife and children only wanted the duck. We all had duck. The waitress/hostess was also sadly lacking in a friendly air and actually made me feel rather uncomfortable that we’d brought our children here for lunch – she also attempted to charge full price for the children’s food, admittedly there isn’t a children’s food option but the portions were half the size so full price was an unnecessary attempt in my opinion. Would I return? I’m glad I’ve been and would recommend others to visit – but no, I wouldn’t return. There aren’t many options in Cognac but the good ones I would say are better if you have children.
Limited but unusual menu of the day. Food was for me plentiful but I could see the males in our party mentally questioning the volume, if not the unusual range of vegetables! The food was excellent, full of natural flavour and the dishes put in front of us had clearly been studied carefully by the innovative chef. The dining is small but has a quirky industrial charm. We thought the main courses and desserts were on the expensive side, but neither the restaurant nor the menu can be said to be pedestrian. Our choice of wine was mid range in price but turned out to be a very very palatable Menetou Salon.
My boyfriend and I came to Cognac to visit a couple of friends in the area and they took us to Poulpette on our final evening. Cognac's such a small, sleepy town, so we weren't sure what to expect. The restaurant was as fantastic as promised. Delightfully modern space, but still perfectly cozy and frequented by locals. They have a fully stocked bar and the dishes were fresh, creative, and delicious. I could definitely see Poulpette thrive in a bigger city, so in a quiet little town like Cognac, they add much to the local food and drink scene.
Do doubt the most imaginative and creative addition to good dining in Cognac and we've tried them all over the 27 years we've been here.Only tried lunch 3 times, but not once in the slightest disappointed. They've kept the menu simple which enables the use of only fresh ingredients. This includes a 26€ 'surprise' 3 course set menu.Charming welcome and service.Excellent and interesting wine list.Setting fashionably minimalist but comfortable.Don't hesitate to try it, you shouldn't feel let down.
Having heard alot of good reviews from our french friends we thought we must check this new restaurant out. We were very pleased we did.Its unusual these days to go out for a meal where everything tastes delicious and the whole experience is memorable.Hats off to La Poulpette as they've really got it right. There are two choices from each course or you can take the set menu at 26€ and they surprise you with their choice, i loved that!Every dish was seasonal, well balanced and creative yet not fussy. Excellent home cooking.Good sellection of wines and very good knowledgeable service.Cant wait to go again. A lovely fresh change for CognacWell done!
