Restaurant bewertenI love that I can get some simple food for under $10 in SoHo. And it's FILLING. Order and pay when you walk in and then tell them what you want off the buffet and they package it.If it says 4 items soup, you get 4 items in addition to your rice/noodle choice. I get half Mei fun and half rice.
I had to pay first to get the meal and the soup taste nasty. It cost near $10.00 for getting 4 plus choices. On the other hand ice cream was fresh and the quality was great with Mint and Oreo Chocolate Cookie but it is overpriced. It cost $7.50 for ice cream.
One of my travel mantras is to always accept the recommendations of locals. We had a big group travelling in NYC for work and we spent a morning wandering around Chinatown and we knew we wanted a good Chinese lunch. We asked a local security guard where she recommended and Food Station is where she sent us, on the fringes of Chinatown. We weren't disappointed! It's small inside, but as we were there a little later than the normal lunch rush crowd, we easily found seats for all 7 of us. Most of our group ordered the buffet and I'll admit--this was ultimately my regret, that I didn't order it. I opted for a combination plate, which took a little long to come out, but was still delicious. I had sweet sour chicken, fried rice and an eggroll--a giant heaping portion of it. The buffet looked amazing, though, so I'd recommend that. So anyways, follow what the locals say--they weren't wrong. This was good Chinese food and very affordable, too!
Unfortunately, the restaurant known as Food Station is no longer operating at this location. I was just there today, and discovered that it had a new name, new menu, and new (higher) prices.
I lived five years in China, and this place comes as close to the Street Food of China that I have seen since I left Shanghai.Super fast serviceExcellent food and low price. The Food Station is worth a subway ride down to Canal street.
