Restaurant bewertenNaan and butter chicken gravy are my two favourite things from this place. DELICIOUS. Also, salads are fresh and tasty and order ahead because this place is always busy
So as a start, I should mention that some of us are of Indian background and used to spicy food. So we ordered about $200 worth of food on their on-line site. Food arrived in good time. However, it was almost all inedible. So laden with chilis so as to lose any other flavor. Again, some of us (including the writer) are of Indian background and appreciate chillis as part of a dish. We understand that in Indian cuisine, a certain amount of heat augments the other spices to create a memorable dish. This is not what this restaurant did -- they used cheap chili flakes to hide the fact that there was poor spicing and flavor to all the dishes. I should also mention that their idea of a "garden salad with house dressing" was to send some onions and lettuce in a brown paper bag stapled shut (no dressing in site). No really. When we called the restaurant to express our disappointment the manager tried to suggest that this was "real Indian cooking." When we identified ourselves as Indian and challenged this assertion in our native language, he became rude and bellergent. Horroirific food and truly disappointing customer service. Avoid like the plague. We understand that ownership has changed. Maybe the previous owners ran a decent restaurant, but the new ownership serve terrible Indian food which they try to hide behind too much heat and then are rude when called out.
My husband and I live in the Beltline neighbourhood and have been frequenting Mirchi restaurant for takeout for 6+ years. In the past always, it's always been one of our favourites, with delicious butter chicken, vegetarian pakoras, daal topped with fresh cut ginger and more. But recently (in the past year or so) it's really gone downhill. I can't say for sure, but I think the restaurant has changed ownership. The food we got last night was subpar at best -- luke warm, many of the dishes watery like thin soup, portions downsized and little details skimped on, like the mixed green salad they give you on the side (instead of colourful mixed greens and cucumbers, it's made now with iceberg lettuce and green peppers....)I'm really disappointed to be writing this review of what has always been one of my favourite inner city take out places. But alas, it's just not the same. I won't be eating there again.
I really like this place. True the decor is non-existent, there is no trace of pretentiousness at all. Its as though they simply exist to cook a good Indian meal at good price. I'm fond of getting the lunchbox for a little more then $10 bucks I think and it always fills me up good and tastes great. Honestly they have one of my favorite butter chickens in the city. Service is pleasant in that they do take your order and supply you with what you asked for and need, but I don't think anyone can say they are overly friendly. Great for take out get in - order - get out. All around good value for the money.
Food is average. Nothing to rave about. We had the Afghan Tikka and Chicken Karahi. Was very surprised at the small portions! I think they are tad overpriced. But if you're really desperate for Indian/Pakistani food, you'll be satisfied.
