Restaurant bewertenWe came here expecting to order a Sunday roast. However the pie on the pub menu looked so good that I changed to that. It was exceptionally good! Home made, short crust, totally enclosing tasty steak. Best pub pie I have had in years. My friend had the vegetarian Sunday roast option which was also exceptionally good with great roast potatoes and plenty of veg and extra gravy. I wish I had left room for their puddings!!
Just been here for a birthday lunch and was very impressed indeed. A well kept up together village pub and very clean inside and out. There was 6 of us and the food was amazing. We all had something different and they all came out together. Very generous portions indeed and would not hesitate to return for more lovely home cooked grub. Added bonus is its dog friendly so on return will be taking our dog. 10/10 for me
Nice local pub but disappointed with our Sunday Roast. We ordered roast beef and roast pork. The pork was thinly sliced and only 2 slices. I’m afraid it looked and tasted a little like a Birds-Eye ready meal although the vegetables were nice, but just a couple of carrots and some cabbage. Sadly there was no crackling and the stuffing was a small perfectly formed anaemic looking ball. Aunt Bessie would be proud to know that her Yorkshire puddings were being served in this pub. They looked nothing like the ones in the pictures. The roast potatoes were perfectly round and pale leading us to suspect that they were prepackaged possibly frozen? The service was good and friendly but the presentation and quality of the meal was not what we were expecting.
Had a meal here a few weeks ago excellent ! Lovely traditional pub, good service. However, disappointed with our visit last Saturday (2/9/23), steak was tough to cut even with a steak knife , chips were pale, stale and dry and burger was hard and overcooked. Such a shame as it was a family birthday and spoilt the evening somewhat.
You will notice from my other reviews that I tend to go for the fish and chips when having lunch out. This is because I like my fish and chips and it is something I cannot prepare at home because I don't have a deep fryer. So, here we go, The Sun served this dish for £4.50 LESS than the one that disappointed me recently but it was absolutely top notch grub. The fish was delicious, it was obviously absolutely as fresh as possible, the batter was thin and crispy and not oily at all. The chips were nicely thick cut, properly made on the premises I would think, beautifully crisp and perfect. Garden peas are OK in their place but I just don't like them with fried dishes so I asked for baked beans instead which were cheerfully substituted. Service was excellent and the pub has some lovely beer, brewed very locally in Swindon which we both thoroughly enjoyed. My son also enjoyed his lunch, he had the sausages which also looked good and resulted in another cleared plate.
