Hidden Jewel Good service and food. Actually, the best restaurant I was here. We took the pork rolls as an entrance, sizzling fish and prawn sweet and sour. Amazing.

Eat here often, and it is always clean and the front of the house personnel are always beautiful. Food is served hot and much faster than other restaurants. Cheap and large dishes. Takeaway service just as good.

Always super friendly and accommodating. Love their 'Tofu Yellow Curry' (without fish sauce) One of the most delicious vegan curries in the city. consistent good service

The Grand Thai Restaurant is a hidden gem from the normal beat and path in Whangarei. It is located in The Grand Hotel with its own unique ambience and charm. I have read some of the previous positive and negative comments. Below is my experience. The staff is quite new, but above the top accomodating, personable and attentive. The chef is spiced, mentally and accumic. To have the best experience, grab the staff, have no time frame and ask what you actually want. I order special dishes, but also ask the boss to surprise me, and I was never disappointed. I was in Thai restaurants all over the world and eat in Thailand and the food here is on site, but make sure to demand your right spice level. The average customer thinks that black pepper is too spicy. So my first dish of the Tom Yum soup was elegant and tasteful, but the next time I ordered it as hot as possible and it was nice. All food experiences are based on what you want and what you expect, so make sure to express your expectations, and if you are in a hurry, you should go to McDonalds and miss the possibility of a great meal.
