Been visiting the area and was luckily recommended The Castle by our hotel. We were greeted by the manager and he kindly gave us directions to the physical castle (which we were going to after our drink). What was originally planned just to come for drinks but decided to stay for lunch, our sever Ben couldn’t have been more accommodating considering our son is gluten free. The food was delicious and had much more to it than you would expect in a rural country pub. The manager and his team really made us feel welcome, we definitely plan on coming back again for dinner before while we are up here !
Love the pub, great atmosphere, great food, good drinks selection. Brilliant service from Jon and Holly.
On a menu consisting of four starters and four main courses, you’d think they would have these dishes nailed….sadly not. I would have preferred to eat nails actually. The beef burger, although reasonably presented tasted awful, either going off or gone off or it wasn’t beef of any sort. The Ploughmans was a joke who serves a Ploughmans with, amongst other misfits, French Brie and two slices of white bread ?…The Whitebait starter were straight out the freezer and breaded like a Birds Eye Fish Finger. The staff looked gobsmacked when we walked in, almost like, friggin hell, we’ve got customers. We will not be returning.
Friendly service, pleasant ambience, very decent pub grub ... standard menu but with some flair very good spot for a pub lunch.
