Restaurant bewertenLast June, my friends and I tried to attend the opening night of The Toy Shop Bar in Putney. However, it turned out to be a private event for friends and family, so we went to another bar nearby instead. We returned last week and finally got to experience it! They now have a very generous happy hour from 5-8 Monday through Thursday, which was the perfect opportunity for us to try their cocktails. The bar was quite empty when we arrived, but I'm sure it will get busier as word spreads about the great deals. The drinks have fun names and unique ingredients. I tried the Newton's Cradle Old Fashioned and my friend Lauren had the Clubland a la Polly Pocket. Another friend, Natalie, enjoyed the Professor's Negroni. The bar has a whimsical Willy Wonka feel, with sweet and theatrical drinks. If cocktails aren't your thing, they also have prosecco and a beer created specially for them. The food is also worth trying, we had the goat cheese lollipops. They also offer Sunday roast parties with unlimited prosecco and beer, DJs, and more. The bathrooms are fun too, with Barbie dolls decorating the ladies' room and brightly colored urinals in the men's room. Overall, a great place to go with friends for an evening of fun and delicious drinks that won't break the bank. Just be careful if you decide to order the King of the Castle, as it's quite pricey!
The cocktails at this restaurant were delicious, but the service was a bit slow even though it wasn't very busy. If you want to take advantage of happy hour, make sure to arrive before 7pm.
I have visited this restaurant for happy hour twice, and it has always been a pleasant place to enjoy cocktails with friends without being too crowded. I appreciate their unique selection of cocktails, which come in different glassware. Even on a Friday night, we were able to find a table easily and didn't have to wait long to be served, perhaps because Putney is not a popular nightlife destination. Additionally, it was a nice touch that they offer complimentary popcorn to all guests.
I was disappointed that the overall decor of the restaurant didn't match the theme, except for behind the bar. However, they do offer a wide variety of drinks, some of which come with complimentary biscuits or toys. The free popcorn was a nice touch. The only downside was that the music wasn't very good. We left around 9pm so it's possible that it improved later in the evening.
The staff at this restaurant are very knowledgeable about the bar and attentive to customers. The bouncers are considerate and have good manners. The cocktail menu is extensive and appeals to a variety of tastes. It is also enjoyable to have live music adding to the ambience during their busiest times. This place is unique enough to make for a fantastic evening for everyone. Definitely worth a visit!
