Restaurant bewertenYou're sitting in the beautiful Piazza del Gesu. The fountain is next to you, a church built in 1271 is 40 yards from you. It's difficult to rate the place low! The eggplant was a little slimy, not awful though. The waiter said he would bring Coke, they substitute Ubuntu. The fish had a lot of bones, but the vegetables are so fresh! The meat cheese antipasti was amazing! Really though, who cares? You are sitting in such a magical place, outside in the piazza TrediciGradi has the location! The prices are really great, every entree at lunch is under 10 euros. Waiter was classically slow, but kind. Some bum looking-person came up to sit at a table, they served her, I never saw her pay. Go here, relax, enjoy good food for an amazing price.
The elegance is not in the décor or the service but in the food. Our first course, the ravioli di pecorino with roasted octopus and a sauce of octopus and hazelnuts, was a masterpiece. Such a combination of tastes and textures, flavour-packed and bland, firm and soft, smooth and crunchy. Then the delicate perch from the Lake of Bolsena was transformed into a fantasy of zucchini, with a zucchini crust, stuffed zucchini rolls, and a spicy zucchini-based sauce. Last but not least, even the meatballs were spectacular: delicate (with parmigiano, eggs, potato, and mortadella in them), served with a perfect tomato sauce on a bed of bread. We had a local white wine, a Grechetto, which was very good. Tredici Gradi is a must if you are at all interested in food.
The squid pasta was delicious here and reminded me of my grandmother's delicious squid sauce. Fish was great as were other pasta dishes. We ate here twice and both times were superb. No reservations were available so we tried walking up a few times and got lucky twice.
Sorry, we really do not understand the good reviews for this restaurant unless we were really unlucky that night ? But how is it possible to be wrong on 4 dishes ? Chick peas cream with bottarga : a warm untasty hummous with rubbery slices. Puntarelle alici with ricotta and anchovies : untasty and salty. Polenta (dry and unchewable , pecorrino very strong and disgusting, with overbitter chicorée salad. Contorni : orange (very good and so disapointing olives (or should I say absence of olives, they were so small and with absolutely no taste ? still for 5 euros ! Icing on the cake, one of the lovely piece of art on the wall sundenly fall on an empty (thank God ! table. A customer and a waiter promptly put back a faulty hook in his previous position and hang back the painting ! The bill : 43 € it took a while to get it due to some issue with uncooperative cash register !
I have to say, this place offered truly beautiful pasta. This restaurant was recommended to me by Paolo, a gentleman whom we rented an apartment from in Viterbo for 4 nights. He was right, this place was an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. I have never had mushroom pasta like this in my life. The mushrooms had just been picked locally and the sauce they made was unlike anything I've ever had. Staff was incredibly friendly and polite, and the outdoor patio was a plus! When in Viterbo, go here!
