Roku Den - Torquay

We had somewhat high expectations coming in based on the reviews at this site. The service was friendly and easy going and the sashimi was fresh. Unfortunately sushi pieces were unimaginative and wrapped crudely in cold, undercooked rice like you can see from other customers' photos.

Really enjoyed the chef's recommended menu. The owner met us and I was impressed with his enthusiasm for what he was offering diners. Lovely food and service. Do try it.

Me and my friend went last night. By the time we left place was packed. Great service, great food, all overseen by owner Anthony. We will return.

Visiting from Melbourne we decided to try Roku Den based on some good reviews. Unfortunately it was packed when we arrived not long after opening (6:10pm) but it was a Saturday night so maybe it just gets packed really quickly We were seated outside but luckily it wasn't a very cold night so we managed ok. We were served very efficiently and the staff were genuinely eager to serve us and ask how things were going throughout the time we were there.We ordered the vegetable yakitori, chicken yakitori, chicken inori and the slow cooked beef ribs with slaw and rice. This was a lot of food for two people but it was really tasty so we got through it all! The yakitori was really flavoursome but I would recommend some rice to go with it to go nicely with the plentiful sauce. The meat was very tender and tasty and the ribs were indulgent and rich. The staff were managing a full house of diners as well as busily preparing food for takeaway customers, but still managed to attend to us quickly even though we were sitting outside. When we went inside to pay they were keen to know how everything was and to make sure we got enough service. I would definitely go back if we were in the area again! I would recommend to make a booking because this place is really popular! The value was also really great. All our food and a beer came to a total of $59.

Visited Roku Den for Mother's Day and we really enjoyed our meals. Everything we ordered was tasty and filling. Although it was really busy and the staff were flat out they were friendly and accommodating. One of the waitresses came round multiple times to fill up every tables water glasses which was nice. The only very very small negative was the diversity and size of the menu however this may be a way to ensure every dish is perfected. Best to book as there is limited space.
