Restaurant bewertenHad fun at this great little New Orleans bar. Friendly staff. Awesome band - Fraser Melvin blues band on a sunday night . They look so young but sound so tight and smooth. Check them out. UNfortunately we had just eaten elsewhere so didn't get to try the food but the menu looked interesting with some New Orleans dishes .
First of all, the greeting by the hostess was very pleasant. That is always a good indicator of what is to come next.Poor girl was stuck in the foyer, which could be hell on a cold night. You know the game: Leave your name and number and we will call youwhen we can let you in. Being a pleasant evening we took a stroll and popped in a Portuguesecafe for a coffee. As we were leaving the cafe, the phone rang and we headed over for "standing room only".Paid our $5 cover, and headed straight to the bar. A busy place and not a lot of room, so expect to be jostled by servers makingtheir way to the tables. Our Bartender provided excellent service. As for the artist who was performing, she was ok, but unfortunately had to competewith an overzealous bass player, and drummer, who looked acted like he might be pertty high and played with intent. It is not a big venue, so playing loudly was not neccessary.Would like to come back, perhaps try the food, and get a table another time.
Went there with my wife hoping to experience a blues bar. We are both seasoned blues supporters and have been to New Orleans and Memphis several times, and have been involved in putting on a national blues festival for several years. What we found at Fat City Blues was hugely disappointing. There was nothing 'bluesy' about the place other than the glassed in alligator head in a frame on the wall. Yes, there was John Lee Hooker quietly playing in the background but nether the staff or patrons seemed to enjoy it or care. They were much more concerned with trying to foist an upscale trendy urban atmosphere to worry about the blues. After arguing with the host about whether we could sit at a tiny vacant table, he finally agreed under the condition that we must leave within 2 hours. We will not ever be back.
Come and hear some of Toronto's best Blues Bands. I was there for Sunday School. The weekly performance of The Fraser Melvin Band playing a wide selection of Blues and R&B. Just what the sunday school teacher ordered.
Thought we'd try this place for a change of pace. We tried the ocra 3 ways, corn bread, and ribs appetizer. Decided to split the fried chicken for dinner. The atmosphere was great and really reminded me of NOLA. The service was friendly and fast. The ocra was so delicious and the fried chicken..... yummmmm... soooo good. Ribs were tough and disappointing. Corn bread had a little jalepeno surprise which was tasty. I would recommend this place for ure!
