The Mussel Inn - Takaka New Zealand

I loved this place when I used to come here, I couldn’t wait to show my family but the food was pretty disappointing for the price and the wait was ages, we paid 100 for 3 adult meals that were made up mostly of lettuce leaves, a pretty budget looking steak and the crusty edges of a not amazing lasagna that is $28, for the price it should be some amazing organic food at least but it’s not even as good as I could make back at the campsite. It’s a nice area but I wouldn’t go there for the food.

I absolutely love the Mussel Inn as a whole, the atmosphere, the music, the culture, and the love behind the business but when I tell you none of the wait staff looked happy to be there I mean they did NOT! There was no hello or a smile as we entered, or after ordering there was no “take a seat we’ll bring it out to you” just a blank stare. After our meal I noticed the waitress clearing the table right next to us so I said pretty clearly “thanks so much for our meal it was delicious” she looked at me again blankly and walked past where have common manners gone? Especially because Golden Bay is full of the most friendliest smiley individuals. I hope they were both just having a rough day

I love the Mussel. If peak busy over summer, expect wait times, but lovely atmosphere good drinks. (The chocolate cake in the cabinet was lovely! Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: With Garlic Bread
