Restaurant bewertenSo we visited Souphanouvong a couple of times over the few years we have lived in the area. Although we enjoyed our previous visits they were not particularly memorable and I don't remember the dishes at all being anything special. Well the evening meal we had this time was really fantastic Thai food. They have had a new owner and the menu has been refreshed with what must be a new chef. I was really impressed. The tempura spicy squid to start was just perfectly cooked and seasoning was so tasty. Then the king prawn special for a main was one of the best I have had. I would go back there just for that dish lol. The service was excellent, nice cosy relaxed atmosphere, waitress was fantastic and friendly and happy to recommend some dishes. I hope they gain more of a reputation and people give it a go again. 5 stars to the new owner :
A new owner took over a couple of months ago and the food has improved!More traditional Thai style if you like it that way over the westernised versions. The Wed night offer is no longer in place but they now do a better lunch offering Thursday to Sunday. (Also 15% off for takeaways on evening plus loyalty card visit 5 times get 25% off next visit if interested).Went for Sunday lunch Red Thai curry with Jasmine rice, Seafood noodle soup and 2 diet cokes £20 bargain. Both dishes were very good the noodle soup would highly rate. You can pick your meat for the curry noodle dishes and they can increase decrease the spicy level for any dish! Which is great as do like it spicy. The new owner I think is called Apple! And use to cook the food before taking over the place and changing the menu for the better. Will be back for lunch soon.
Beautiful food try the mixed starter. Friendly staff. Made our night even more special. Thank you so much.
Hot food cooked to order. I like coming here occasionally. The spring rolls are authentic. reasonable rather than fantastic. It lacks the touches of a special Thai coriander, fresh spices galangal, lime leaf etc. Some of the dishes appear to come from a bottle or toned down for the Western palate. They are very sweet and I'm sure this town needs to support its Thai. But it doesn't match up to some places like the Giggling Squid in Norwich
I've been before so when my son asked if we could take him for his first Thai meal at 20 I booked without hesitation.Four of us arrived at Half 8 last Saturday and were warmly greater by the lovely staff. The restaurant was busy and the atmosphere very pleasant. My lad had the squid starter and was blown away , we both had a seafood main and it was very good. A vegetarian option was taken by his girlfriend who said it was excellent. All in all it was a very good meal , the service was great and with a bottle of wine it came to just under £125 for the 4 of us.I've eaten at many Thai restaurants and this is a good one, there are better which is why I've rated at very good, but if my experience is any thing to go buy it's well worth a visit and I shall return.
