Restaurant bewertenVisiting Culzean Castle we dropped into the Old Stables coffee house beside the Castle and took the sandwiches, cappuccinos a slice of fruit loaf and a fruit scone. . 2 pleasant young lads serving . Situated in the old stables of the Cafe there is outside seating with a really good view of the coastline ,the place has a lot going for it . The sandwiches were made on the 12th this was the 14th and sell by date was the 15th One side of my sandwich was hard ! this is 3 days old, sandwiches need to be fresh . The fruit loaf was dried out but this was lying on open plates instead of being covered and the scone was not the same day. This is a great location and it would not be hard to sort the problems. The other problem is we could see into one of the toilets from our seat there is no second door between the cafe and the toilets We would have been better going to the much larger restaurant which looked much better organised
Do yourself a favour and order the Scottish oak smoked salmon sandwich with lemon mayonnaise, side salad and crisps. Quality!
Nice cafe and shop built in the old stables and piggery, we just had a sandwich and a drink in the lovely sunshine.
The current titles of the 2 cafes are SWAN POND CAFÉ HOME FARM KITCHEN Decent cafe, the quality of which (including the shop) in the old pig farm is another example of where lottery cash goes I guess.
All through the Covid crisis this was a haven for a decent snack after a visit to Culzean. Now that life is improving the catering has taken a nose dive. Gone are the BLT's , Bacon Rolls and tasty hot snacks. All that they offer now are cakes and biscuits and the the occasional sorry looking pre-packed white bread sandwich. Very disappointing. We have persevered for a few months and even written to the catering manager but to no avail. Culzean is still a great day out but take yor own food!
