Restaurant bewertenSo I went to ikea to get lamps and so for the new living room. all well, then you bought a lot more things for the kitchen instead. I had heard a friend who said: "oh! they should try this...sushi place in the mar shopping, umi sushi, it's actually pretty and cheap, this made me think: "ohmm I don't feel like cooking for me tonight. I have a feeling, I'll get exactly what I'm paying for, but let me go a bit so they don't call me sushi snob again. it could be a pleasant surprise.” that was not. I ordered a little bit with taking and brought it back to home, a cook choice 16 pieces box where – and I only noticed that later because I had to touch the box and it was hot – they put hot / fried sushi (I am not a big fan of fusion by the way) mixed and touch the blanks.
So, I went to IKEA to get some lamps and such for the new living room. All good, ended up buying a lot more stuff for the kitchen instead. All good there too. Now, I had heard a friend say “oh! You should try this...sushi place at Mar Shopping, Umi sushi, it’s actually quite nice and inexpensive”, this made me think “hmmm I don’t feel like cooking for myself tonight… I have a feeling I’m gonna get exactly what I pay for, but let me give it a go so they don’t call me sushi snob again. It could be a pleasant surprise”. It wasn’t. I ordered a little takeaway and brought it back home, a chef’s choice piece box where – and I only noticed this later just because I had to touch the box and it was hot – they put hot/fried sushi (I am not a big fan of fusion by the way) mixed and touching the raw pieces. Mistake right there. I came home and sat down to eat while watching Kill Bill (which happened to be on tv, mind you) when I noticed mistake Nearly black tuna with a lovely shade of glistening green on it. Yup, not fresh tuna. I picked it up, unwrapped it, sliced it in half… And it was red/green in the middle. Lovely! But its smell was… Even lovelier! It was like the tuna had swam and crawled up to dry land to get a tan… days ago! After these two I decided to eat the slices of salmon sashimi that were far far away from everything else, to make sure I wasn’t being too harsh. HUGE mistake. The fish was butchered in thick-as-steak portions to begin with. After eating this, I spent hour feeling nauseated. Meaning: no fresh fishie. Bottom line is: don’t listen to people when they say “it’s good sushi and inexpensive”, don’t trust people who’ve never had real and good quality sushi like, for instance, Tomo in Lisbon, or Sushisamba (if you like the sort), or even the inexpensive yet very acceptable Bento sushi takeaway in London. I won’t mention actual Japanese sushi-ya in Japan because that’s more inaccessible (all restaurants listed are just examples at the top of my head, there are loads more that are good). Still, to everyone out there, if you think good sushi costs euro a box you are sadly mistaken. I regret having spent even euro at that place and will NEVER eat there again. I do not recommend it to anyone, I don’t want anybody getting sick over their lack of skill and quality control. You know the place sucks if the itamae (sushi-man) calls a nigiri a ni-JI-ri. Enough said
