Restaurant bewertenLocated inside the Other Coast Cafe, the west wall is adorned with event posters, creating a casual atmosphere where people gather on a rainy day. After studying the menu and deciding on our orders, my group of six entered the cafe and sat in a booth at the back. My wife, Peggy, placed our orders, including a special and mild dish for our picky grandson. We had parked near Seattle University and decided to explore Capitol Hill to see how it had changed over the years. My son, who had attended Seattle U, was excited to share his memories of the area. As we reminisced, our daughter and son seemed bored, while the grandkids looked confused. However, when the food arrived, it was delicious. I ordered a Turkey Reuben with a lemonade soda, enjoying every bite like a scene from a Food Network show. My wife, son, and daughter were pleased, and my granddaughter even finished her sandwich despite claiming to be full. The atmosphere of the cafe was charming, with original art on the walls that seemed inspired by famous artist Arturo Vega. I later learned from the cafe's owner, Emily Mabus, that Other Coast was founded in 1999 as an East Coast deli in Ballard. Mabus and her husband took over the business in 2007 and opened the Capitol Hill location in 2010. The cafe holds a special place in their hearts, with loyal employees who have been with them since the beginning. Overall, our experience at Other Coast Cafe was delightful, filled with good food and fond memories.
The Good: The Rajin Cajun sandwich was about as good a hot sandwich as I can remember eating. Soft, warm, spicy, flavorful and filling. I'm already looking forward to having another one. The Not So Good: First, the music was brutal. I don't expect to like the music at every business I walk into but this noisy hip hoppish stuff made me want to leave immediately. Secondly, we ordered, payed and sat down to wait for our food. At that time, we noticed the Happy Hour sign and realized that despite the fact that the sandwich and beer I ordered were both on the Happy Hour menu, neither was rung up at the discounted price. After mentioning this, the bill was corrected but it would not have been if I hadn't noticed the mistake myself. Overall: excellent sandwich but the music and service both need to be addressed.
The grinders at this restaurant are outstanding, made with high-quality meats and cheeses! We were planning to dine in, but as it was 40 degrees outside and the front door was wide open, we had to leave in just a few minutes of waiting for our food.
This place is delicious. A little pricey but completely worth it
Seattle used to be a crappy sandwich town, nothing like what you find on the east coast, but it has gotten much better and this place was one of the first to flip the script. Try the vegetarian chickpea salad sandwich, it is super satisfying. The vibe is Capitol Hill rock and roll, but clean and fast. Good place to order carryout from one of the delivery services too.
