Restaurant bewertenThe restaurant is located on a somewhat secluded stretch of Van Ness Avenue at the northern end of the Mission. However, once you step inside, it feels like you've entered a place straight out of Eastern Germany, infused with a distinct hipster vibe. The mostly bare walls are adorned with various German posters. Our waiter was excellent—friendly and knowledgeable about the different beers on the menu. Despite the predominantly meat-based offerings, this restaurant is surprisingly accommodating for vegetarians, with a few standout vegetarian dishes that I found quite enjoyable; I can only imagine that the meat options are even better. Naturally, like any German restaurant, the beer selection is a major attraction. While Walzwerk may not have a vast menu, it offers a decent variety, featuring around five German beers on tap and an equal number in bottles. They also serve typical German mixed drinks such as beer with coke, beer with 7up, and a mix of coke and 7up.
Enjoy East German cuisine in a unique and stylish setting. Be sure to try the Jägerschnitzel or one of the daily specials. Vegetarians are also well catered for, with a delicious veggie schnitzel on the menu! It's recommended to make a reservation, as the place tends to fill up every evening.
