Restaurant bewertenThere are many good restaurants on Salt Spring; this is not one of them. On a busy summer Friday night we tried to get into The Treehouse, which is a great little place with excellent food. As the wait would have been too long, we decided to give neighbouring ShipStones a try. Our patio table overlooking the marina was great and our server was prompt and friendly. Everything else was downhill from there. My husband had the mussels, which apparently had good flavour but were about the size of garden peas--really too small to include on a menu. The mussels came with the smallest bowl of frites we've ever seen in a restaurant. I had Korean BBQ chicken wings, which were dry and tasteless. Everything on the menu is seriously overpriced. Almost no locals patronize this restaurant and we now know why. Other Ganges Village restaurants including the Salt Spring Inn, Auntie Pestos, Treehouse, or upscale House Piccolo are all recommended over ShipStones or the Oystercatcher restaurant above ShipStones.
The service was lackluster and so was the food. Our table did not enjoy any of their choices from burgers to fish to frites to mussels. We would not recommend this eatery.
Stopped by for a beer on a very quiet Sunday afternoon. Had the place to ourselves. The view of the harbour was lovely.
This restaurant and the oystercatcher are the same place. It was on the water and the patio was nice with little fire pits here and there but the food was really very bad. We all had fish and chips and I must say it was probably the worst I have eaten in a long time and very expensive for what you got. The service was not great either. Much better places on the island at better prices.
Saturday is market day on Saltspring so a lot of people on the island, however the restaurant wasn't crazy busy when 10 us arrived just after 1 for lunch. We were accommodated quickly, water and menus arrived. We ordered drinks which came promptly but we waited almost 40 minutes for our meals. Burgers, vegetable curry, Caesar salad, mussels were good. The clam chowder tasted sweet(?), focaccia bread unremarkable. Waiter seemed to forget about us at times not bringing the ice cream for the kids meal until reminded and the take away Box requested (waited 10 minutes and finally gave up). Other diners who arrived after we did were served, finished their meal and left before we got our bill. Great location in Ganges right by the marina.
