9/4/2018... I'm taking a colleague for a tour of Salerno since I'm from the area and seeing the place intrigued us and we decided to enter.... Empty place, hungry, we quickly order and wait for these Mexican dishes... An infinite wait, the best thing was the bread.... Dishes that weren't spicy at all... Minced meat and beans don't make a Mexican dish... To avoid .... I'm doing this review while I'm at the table think about the desire I have to eat ...
I feel I should warn fellow tourists because I’m sure the locals know not to eat here. We were the only ones dining here on a Saturday night, silly us. The meals took forever considering all the chef had to do was sprinkle cheese on our nachos. Bright yellow American cheese squares melted on nachos, big NoNo. The waiter didn’t know what jalapeños were so I googled a picture for him. No tomato juice. So the only dish to our surprise that we enjoyed was a jalapeño dish, crumbed with cheese. The Coronas were good haha. Sorry to write a review like this but come on guys, you’re in Salerno. Lift your game do some research.
I had read the mixed reviews on here about La Cueva del Sol before coming here but I really wanted to it anyway. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the music is good, however I was very disappointed with the food. We ordered the tortilla chips and salsa for starters, which were store bought in my opinion. For the mains I had the chilli de gringo, and my friends ordered the tacos and the burrito. The chilli de gringo was served with tortilla chips and was much too salty, lacking flavour and the portion was very small considering the price and the lack of quality. My friends were disappointed too and we all agreed that we could make better Mexican food at home. We ordered sangria too and were quite sure that the sangria they serve is Don Simon and they just add fruit and jack up the price. If you’re looking for very tasty Mexican food, I wouldn’t recommend going here. But I would come here again to have some drinks with friends because it’s a beautiful bar with a nice ambiance.
Checked out the reviews of this place after I had already dined here and I'm glad that I did. Came across this Irish Mexican restaurant and decided to try it out. Tried the Steak Ale pie, tacos and a burrito with London Shandy. This is the 4th time I've tried this particular pie, twice in UK, and another in Holland. The pie's meat was well marinaded. Tacos had a good mix of ground beef and fresh vegetables. The burrito had a lot of fresh vegetables with beans and ground meat. Most people I know prefer burritos with a lot meat, but I personally like this version. Neither the tacos nor burritos were salty or oily, which were the cases in other stalls and restaurant I have eaten in. The waitress was very sweet, friendly and attentive. The locale was reasonably quiet and calm, with the exception of a large group of noisy kids. I personally feel the pricing is reasonable, considering the location and the prices of the other restaurants in the same area.
