Restaurant bewertenI returned to the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in downtown Pittsburgh after a very poor experience last year. As with before, I was impressed with the design. The decor is something that Kimpton (almost always gets rights. Location is excellent for anyone needing to be in downtown. Staff were mostly very good. I say mostly for two reasons. First, the valet parking attendant didn't offer any assistance with luggage. There also wasn't a bellman or doorman to help. At check in, the front desk clerk never offered with assistance either. Second, the bar staff in the restaurant were poorly trained. In front of an entire bar of customers they asked my last name and room number when paying a bill. That is a complete no no in any kind of hotel. You never, ever do that. I mentioned it to the employee that I didn't appreciate being asked that information and he really pushed back and claimed that's how they were trained. Those things aside, the front desk were polite, professional and hospitable. Jakub or Jacob and Alexus especially. Unlike last time, my room was clean. Spotless. That's much improved. The room itself was comfortable and well appointed, although there continues to be some things that show their age. There just aren't enough accessible USB and electrical outlets to charge devices. The TV is also a little small. I'd expect a 50 or 55 inch TV in 2023. From an amenities standpoint, the Kimpton comes in below what you expect for an upscale 4 star hotel. There's a bathrobe in the room but no slippers. While there is a mini fridge, there is no mini bar in the room not even a premium king corner, which at most hotels would be considered a junior suite. You also don't get a coffeemaker. How is that possible? Even a basic no frills hotel includes a coffeemaker. I was told I could get an espresso machine delivered to the room but I don't like espresso. I prefer drip coffee or Keurig capsules. There were no newspapers in the hotel. I needed dry cleaning but there were no laundry bags or dry cleaning forms. The front desk told me they haven't had laundry forms in a year. So I had to make my own laundry form on a scrap piece of paper. Not only is that asking for clothes to be lost or an order to be screwed up but without a proper laundry form you don't know how much something costs to have dry cleaned or laundered and the guest also doesn't get a receipt. I've never seen a hotel not have a laundry form. And guess what? My dry cleaning order came back incorrect because there was no form. IHG Diamond and Intercontinental Ambassador recognition was better than average. Before arrival, I was upgraded to the premium king corner. As I said earlier, most hotels would consider that a junior suite. At check in, I received a choice of breakfast, 600 points or a $20 credit on F&B or alcoholic drinks from the pantry at the front desk the kind of drinks you would normally find in a mini bar if there was a stocked mini bar. I chose breakfast. I also gave the Kimpton password at check in for an extra option. I ended up taking the $20 credit as the other options presented were of no value whatsoever (a free movie really? . Most Kimptons give you a choice of parking. In my room was a personally addressed note, two bottles of water and an amenity with a couple pieces of what appeared to be chocolate and macarons. Just don't stay here on weekends expecting breakfast because the hotel doesn't serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. The only option is a brunch starting at 8:30 am. Really? That's completely unacceptable. What hotel doesn't have breakfast? On a side note, the breakfast benefit included tip and tax. On the one morning I did have a breakfast the waitress never had me sign a receipt. So I don't know if she actually received the tip that was included with the voucher. What you see on the website is what you get. A beautifully decorated, stylish hotel in an excellent location in Pittsburgh. The staff are wonderful, friendly but professional, however I must give a big shoutout to Mira on the front desk. She went above and beyond to fix our laundry needs, which is so important for travellers, an absolute star. You won’t be disappointed here and that’s for sure.
The Kimpton Monaco definitely is a great re-use of a classic building; the lobby is classic and inviting...and the rooms are beautiful. The decor of the room is classical/antique feeling, but fit the entire vibe of the hotel. The location is very convenient in downtown Pittsburgh. My biggest complaint is that the room did not have a coffee maker; when I called downstairs to request one, they said one would be brought up....but that never happened. So, I went the morning without my critical cup of coffee. That aside, it was a good stay in a beautiful venue.
This hotel was the best! Everything was stellar the service, the room, the location were all 5 stars. We will certainly be back. Every person on staff that we spoke to went above and beyond on an extremely busy weekend in the city. The room decor was so funky and fun, and everything was extremely clean. Location was perfect you could walk to all the restaurants downtown easily, all the strip restaurants were pretty close, and the tourist sites and events were walkable too. Will definitely be recommending this hotel to anyone I know visiting Pittsburgh!
I had an excellent stay here. Comfy beds, good service, cool aesthetic. However, no coffee machines in the rooms, you have to request one.Rooms: 5/5
