Restaurant bewertenThis review is specifically for afternoon tea at The Tea Room. The Tea Room is located on the first floor of The Rittenhouse Hotel. It's offerings include several selections to experience the tea, from a signature to some more opulent choices including a table side caviar preparation. Champagne is additional with some of the more grander choices. They are also very ADA compliant, for my disabled spouse.
Great setting, tasty tasting menu, proficient and friendly service, nice wine selection, will definitely return, thank you.
The food is a tired menu from 1 1/2yrs ago. The same things were not as good, which makes me think they are using a sous chef to do the prep. I was here about 6 months ago and it was better but again the same food. Service was the biggest letdown. Previous service had a way of making the experience. This waitress was simply overmatched, and did not fit a quality dining establishment. What was worse was her annoying voice tone. Unfortunately she was the only service in the restaurant. along with an excellent busser who was here previously. Truly, he should be the server.
We had drinks and then dinner at the bar and found the whole experience to be excellent. The bartender, Amy, was full of anecdotes about the historical background of the drinks we ordered. The food was also fantastic. We all received cube-shaped bread before our meals, along with a flavorful butter that melted in our mouths. I ordered the raclette tartine and Parisian gnocchi with mushrooms, both of which were superb. My husband got the tuna tartare as a starter and similarly enjoyed it. Good ambiance and beautiful decor. Would definitely recommend!
Lacroix is the main dining room of The Rittenhouse Hotel. I believe they offer elaborate multi-course fixed price dinners in the evening, although I only visited for breakfast at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday. I like the name Lacroix . It reminds me of the Parisian couturier Christian Lacroix. It also means The Cross in French. The hostess led me into the long, narrow and rather anonymous room and offered me a table upon which the sun was pouring in from the window. I told her I did not want to sit in the sun. Accordingly, I was offered a large booth opposite that table which gave me shade as well as plenty of room to spread out. The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal were both available at a little table up front for guests at breakfast. Guess which one I chose? [Hint: The New York Times! . At first, one of the waiters seemed a bit crabby. However, he later warmed up. I like to keep my breakfasts simple. Although large set breakfasts are offered [one was called The Philadelphian , I ordered a la carte: a couple glasses of orange juice, crispy bacon, buttered wheat toast and a warm Blueberry/Lemon Muffin. The meal was nicely served and tasted good. As a guest of The Rittenhouse, I did not have to fuss with credit cards and just signed my name and room number and I was out the door on to my next adventure in Philadelphia.
