Restaurant bewertenNice chippy bit deer but no broon sauce put on chips and fish clean and busy so go early you will be queing
Simply, the food is unbelievably overpriced. The food really isn’t very good; fish and chips is something available almost anywhere in the UK and the food here is simply worse and more expensive than most places. I don’t understand how anyone could charge £1.75 for a canned soft drink, or £1.75 for a measly portion of mushy peas almost £2 for MUSHY PEAS! Also, the service is poor; it was dead and the two members of staff still couldn’t be bothered to bring the food over. I understand the need for the electronic beepers in busy periods, but they’re unnecessary when it’s quiet and the staff are stood chatting. Lastly, the wooden cutlery is a joke. My elderly uncle suffers from Parkinson’s and the flimsy wooden cutlery was useless to him. This is pathetic and caused only embarrassment and stress. We will never return, and I would urge anyone visiting the area to avoid McKays like the plague.
Our order was processed very quickly, despite the place's being busy before its closing time. Finh&chips and scampi&chips were all-right and came in generous servings. All in all, the place did its job well.
We were on our way home from the racing at Perth and stopped here for our supper. So much has improved since the new annex has been put in. Lovely food and the staff (Stuart) was very accommodating to our party of 8! Food arrived hot and plentiful. The only thing that we would suggest is if you are eating in, then maybe proper cutlery would be a better idea. Overall though, will return again.
During our visit to Pitlochry in October 2017, our Scottish friends recommended McKays for fish and chips, claiming it was better than Australia's. However, we found the portions to be small and overpriced. The food was unpleasant in taste and two of us experienced stomach issues afterwards, likely due to the dinner. Our Scottish friends informed the staff the next day, but they were indifferent. In our opinion, Australian fish and chips still reign supreme.
