Restaurant bewertenWith so few evening dining options in Penola, we flipped a coin and it came down for the Royal Oak. In fact I probably wish the coin had been lost in the grass - because this was a dining experience I wish I'd never had.Hence the one star rating !!!
We enjoyed a quiet lunch in the Bar, and dinner at night in the Dining Room. Lunch was yummy toasted sandwich and coffee, dinner was for a large group with a wide variety on the menu. Our meals appeared quickly. We were all hungry and enjoyed everything served. Good work!
We chose to eat at the Royal Oak and were in the bar before meals started. We ordered a couple of drinks and asked to put it 'on the tab' as we were going to be ordering food. The bar-maid looked unsure and insisted the hotel held onto my credit card until we had finished our meal and were ready to pay! Felt a bit uneasy with this but we went with it and all worked out in the end. The food was EXCELLENT, the beer and fine very nice as was the Highland Park Whisky nip I had. Service was good after the initial stand-off!
We were staying overnight in Penola and wanted a quiet dinner and this venue provided that. The staff are friendly and provide excellent service. There is a large range of dishes and an excellent wine list mostly local.
Great old pub with a long history Dining room is a warm friendly room I was surprised by the poker tables . Food was very good drinks were reasonably priced In all we enjoyed the night
