Restaurant bewertenI love the soul food here. It 's a great space, the bar, the fried oysters, the chicken nuggets, cocktails and fried okra. It 's very reasonably priced and Karter, is a kind 'soul '. One of the few black-owned soul food restaurants in the Bay area. Worth the trip.
My friend and I were looking for a Black-owned spot in Oakland and we stumbled upon Soul Slice. After looking through the menu before eating here, I was nervous to try the different combinations of pizzas they had. A lot of the soul food staples on pizza, really had me shook and nervous to try. To my surprise though, the pizza was good. I was also nervous to see how a cornbread crust would be for pizza (REALLY GOOD). My friend and I ordered the Cajun Shrimp pizza. I thought it was a good pizza to ease in with. Our server also helped us to make the final decision because we were torn between the Hot Link Pizza and Cajun Shrimp Pizza. I'm glad we went with the Cajun Shrimp pizza cause it was really good. We ordered one whole pizza and shared it between the 2 of us. It was filling and enough for both of us. The pizza was more of a flatbread. The crust was really nice and had a crunch to it. It also had some sweetness to it which I liked. The toppings and the pizza sauce was great. Everything was well seasoned and tasted good. The chef accidentally put cheese on our pizza which was not a big deal. It didn't add or take away anything from the pizza but it definitely added more color and texture. Overall the pizza was good. Our server was really nice and very attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. They played soul music the entire evening and it was overall an excellent vibe. I would come back here to try another pizza.
The ambiance, employee friendliness, creativity, and cocktails get the stars. I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the food was far too bland. :
I was looking for a Black owned restaurant that was had options outside of traditional soul food/bbq and this was one of the first results. If you're coming from outside of Oakland, it's in the part of Oakland that's close to Berkeley and Emeryville. I came on 12/30 at 5 pm and there was no wait. They require proof of COVID 19 vaccination and ID verification. The restaurant is pretty spacious and the artwork on the wall is a great touch. The playlist is also on point very much Soul Train esque and goes with the theme of the restaurant. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive (can't remember their name but they had short curly hair). We were deciding between the Cajun Shrimp vs Hot Link Pizzas. After talking to the server, we went with the Cajun shrimp pizza. It was bomb. The pizza is more flatbread style. The biscuit crust has a little bit of sweetness and is pretty crumbly so at times it can be hard to eat with a fork and knife. Everything was seasoned wonderfully. The pickled peppers also gave it a nice kick. I do wish it had a little more green onion but I'm also an onion fiend. Our pizza accidentally came with cheese on it which we didn't mind. It didn't add much flavor to the pizza but added a layer of texture. I think it's plenty for 2 people because I was very full afterwards. There's ample street parking directly adjacent to the restaurant and in the nearby neighborhoods. Also there is a happy hour on Wednesdays from 5 7 pm.
Amazing food; very filling, you will definitely be eatin' your greens, and experience a cocktail! The four of us went to celebrate my buddy's birthday and had a blast. We ordered about 7 different sides for the table. Smashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and cornmeal fried chicken nuggets to name a few. I had a hearty slice of the Cornmeal Fried Chicken pizza with barbecue sauce and it was delicious. Sorry, no pictures because I was busy eating. Next time I'm getting the Cheddar and Onion pizza and a side of baked Mac and cheese. I'm following them on the Instagram now : Thank you for the great food and great service!
