Famous Gyro George - North Olmsted

The best Gyro in Sandusky... OK, its 40 minutes away, but it is the best Gyro within a 50 mile drive of Sandusky (that I have discovered so far... . The protein portion is very generous (fresh shorn from the hot log of luv and the toppings are remarkably fresh and delicious. Especially the onions. Now don 't get me wrong, I love me a good sweet onion. On a sandwich that is full of bold tastes though, the onions should not be a shrinking violet. The onions used at George 's wouldn 't take **** from general Patton... Totally awesome with full flavor and freshness. The sauce is the Yin to the onion 's Yang and here too George 's does not disappoint. Delicate and cool with leading spice and undertones of Greek fields in the springtime. Served separate from the sandwich so that the application level is up to the individual eater. The bread seems like it would be ubiquitous from Gyro joint to Gyro joint, but let me just say that they are critical to the experience in my opinion. Vine and Olive here in Sandusky (a wine and dessert joint that sports Gyros is spotty at best with their bread handling. George 's was the picture of perfection: Warm, verging on hot, with minor bits of crunch from careful grilling, a chewy moist center, and an aroma that fills your mind with pictures of grandma pulling fresh homemade bread from the oven on a fall afternoon. The tomato and lettuce were crisp, bright, and full of snap with the exact correct volume of each. The sum total is a Gyro that has balance in the flavors, temperatures and consistency. Each bite is a song with a complete beginning, middle, and end. George 's makes me want that song on repeat... P.S. PUH-LEESE open a branch in Sandusky!

Drove by the other day, and decided to stop in for a quick, inexpensive meal. Great unassuming little place, with flavorful large gyros and gyro sauce (tzatziki? ! The service was great too, and it has a dining area too. This is fast food with a non fast food taste! Going back again soon.

Just awesome gyro's Staff is awesome. Not shy on the fixens and meat. I went in to give it a try on Monday took my Wife in Thursday and she also enjoyed the food. We ate inside and it was very comfortable.

Back to the Gyro George of old! Several years back I left a bad review because it was poor. Re-visited on a report from a friend and was pleased to the place all cleaned up and neat. The dining room was changed and things were open and orderly. Food was delicious, I ordered a Philly gyro and wife has fries and regular gyro. All were fast, tasty and fresh. Counter help was talkative and polite and I was thanked by both workers as I left. Welcome back and see you again soon Georgie!

My wife and I went there after getting a Groupon offer. While the quantity of food was great, the quality was so-so. The fries were greasey as were the chicken tenders. The place has no air conditioning and the carpeting was dirty. If you must try them, get your food to go.
