Restaurant week menu showed gluten free bread/rolls option, but after waiting an hour for our food to come was told they didn’t have any. The salads flat bread prosciutto was awesome. The view spectacular. The waitress very nice but felt we should have been told when ordering no rolls available.
Normally amazing! Likely off due to Newport restaurant week. The music was so loud we had to ask twice to get it turned down.
Since we are locals, we have eaten here many times in the past and never had any concerns. This time, however, was vastly different. To begin, the lighting at night in this not so large dining area, is way too bright. The spots shine directly down and it’s way too distracting and visually uncomfortable. We asked to move our table 4-top , and it was better to be out from under the recessed spots. Secondly, the music, which has never before been an issue, was way too loud for this dining space. The four of us had to lean across the table to have a normal level conversation. And as the room filled up, it was obnoxiously loud and definitely lowered our experience. Thirdly, and unfortunately, our server, her name began with a K , although sweet, was inattentive and unfamiliar with the wine options. We noticed she spent time chatting with other servers while forgetting to bring our drink orders, for which she apologized. She was inefficient and seemed inexperienced. By the time we ordered our entrees, we had waited too long in this bright and loud environment to fully enjoy our party of 4. The food was as good as it usually is, however the lack of ambiance and poor level of service brought this experience to a level we’ve never before experienced. Since this all occurred on a relatively quiet Thursday evening in November, we were surprised and disappointed to say the least. Hopefully when we give The Safari Room another try, the above concerns will have been rectified. On an additional note, other diners were also complaining about this light and noise level. Maybe this was just a bad night all around for this restaurant ??? .
