LIEBE Naomi is better than Eshs... Esh has increased its minimum and prices and Naomi's is still good old-fashioned Amish cooking
This was the first time to Naomi's. We were a group of 31. We were plesantly surprised when we walked into the basement where the dining area was set up. White linen table cloths and colorful napkins. Really nice dinnerware. Homemade pickles and homemade butter and jam was already on the tables. Then came the homemade bread and lettuce salad with hot bacon dressing and hardboiled eggs. Very good, indeed. Next came the veggies mashed potatoes and green beans)and stuffing, then the platters of roast turkey and roast beef served with a gravy. Eat up y'all. And leave room for dessert. We had apple crumb pie, brownie pie topped with cherry pie filling and rich vanilla ice cream. And they served unlimited fresh brewed coffee and sweet tea. All for $20 a piece $10 for kids) plus gratuity. A very nice experience. Would like to try it again. Maybe we will have turkey and dressing and country ham.
This restaurant offers large, family-style dishes prepared by the Amish and served in their home, accommodating groups of up to 40 people. It’s a fantastic option for private gatherings and celebrations.
For our group of 15 adults and one child, we chose fried beef and oven-baked chicken (other options included meatloaf, turkey and stuffing, beef brisket, mock ham loaf, and BBQ meatballs). Each meal is served with a traditional salad topped with a delectable speck dressing, pickles, bread with butter and jam, and buttered noodles. We also enjoyed potatoes, gravy, and corn. For dessert, we had blueberry crumb cake, coconut cream cake, and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Everything was homemade, and meals were served family style at a long table illuminated by solar or gas-powered lights. The dining space was not what I expected; it had a simple floor with a kitchen in the corner and a pleasant scent reminiscent of freshly laundered linens, which contributed to the cozy atmosphere. Noteworthy touches included the delicious freshly roasted coffee, homemade butter and jam, and pickles that were a unique blend of dill and sweet styles. The overall meal was very satisfying, particularly the potatoes, although I found some items good, rather than exceptional. This is certainly not a place for those who are calorie counting or monitoring their carbohydrates, nor is it suited for those seeking fine china or tablecloths. The suggested donation is $20 per adult plus a recommended $2 gratuity per person (cash only). This price aligns well with what family-style restaurants and buffets typically charge in Lancaster, PA, but this experience feels more intimate and homey. Naomi Stoltzfus was a pleasure to work with when setting the date and answering my many questions about the menu. The biggest challenge was coordinating a group of 15 people who were available on the same evening. However, I would happily do this again for a special occasion or group outing.
