Restaurant bewertenTapas food here and boy was good. 3 of us pampered in a nice dinner, bubbles Pinot Noir. It's just tapas menu, but much to choose as Shashimi Kingfish, Duck fat potatoes much more. Excellent service beautiful surroundings...eat in.
The Black Cockatoo Restaurant is well located in Mount Buller Chalet Hotel. Easy to find, staff friendly enough, ambience a tad on the dark side, there was little attention on Covid procedures. But the tables were well distributed and the night we went...for the 7:30 seats the restaurant was not good, that was not full with half capacity). It's a set menu that had pleasant plates that you don't get to choose something, it's set, it just roll in). However, they could advise food allergies. We chose the 2 course $95 per head plus drinks) so not included dessert. All plates were delicious, nicely plated and we didn't leave hungry like many desert restaurants. I would go back if I had more nights on the mountain, probably not. Is it a special meal last night? Ambience, maybe yes, flourish, probably not. And by the way, the dress is somewhat less than smart casual, but short on ski clothing.
We visited Black Cockatoo last weekend after enjoying it several times last season. Sitting in the bar area at the fireplace was great and our cocktails, although expensive, was delicious and just what we wanted. We sat at 7:30 a.m. on the table and there were several tables empty that seemed strange that it was a Saturday night, but I thought only sure that they would be fulfilled no one would ever sit on them. We opened the wine list to find only 5 Pinot Noirs... One of them is over $1100 AUD. The menu was small and sound great, but the food lacked taste. Last year there were delicious Asian flavors but this year it was all a little dirty. We ordered the chicken as a duck and it was basically dry chicken with this unknown sauce. Last year, delicious Asian sticky wings were available. Our main thing came and I had ordered the pig bell and my partner the lamb. The pig bell was very soft, the crack was like gum and a bite had it between my teeth for the next hour. The waitress told us that the lamb was pink, but it came a gray color and was full of fat, seemed to be a very cheap piece of meat. We didn't have desserts when we felt disappointed and thought we'd rather not risk it. I don't want to be as negative as I said this restaurant was great in the past! The fit is there and Vibe is there, but they can't nail the food... It's almost as if it doesn't matter to them because Buller is so busy and is open only for a few months that they know they don't lose customers, but sub par food serve for a very exp4ensive price. I have no problem with the payment of quality food, but it wasn't. I will not come back this season, but I will try again next year, because I hope this council will be taken on board.
Food was excellent and service efficient. Family-friendly restaurant at the Mt Chalet Hotel. I love the cozy fireplace bar and view of the terrace is amazing.
Quality food at Mt Buller. The Black Cockatoo offers fine dining. While expensive the taste are worth the premium price.
