Basil Seasonal Dining - Monterey

Good Italian food. Good variety of dishes. Underrated because it's in a hidden location overshadowed by the bigger Italian restaurants in Carmel. A small place to dine inside, but plenty of outside tables with a canopy and heaters. Try their cocktails and wine. Disappointed when the website advertised the special 3 course dinner, but discontinued it by the time we got there.

Our first time eating at Basil and we will not return. We spent the entire day in Carmel by the Sea eating breakfast, lunch, dinners, drinks and wine tastings at several different places and they were all fantastic; except here. We did not have time to dine at the restaurant before leaving but did not want to miss ordering our favorite- pasta arrabbiata. We picked it up and could not wait to eat on our way home. To say we were disappointed upon opening the box would be a disappointment. 27 poorly presented over cooked noodles. 27. It looked as if half the dish was forgotten there was so little. We even called to confirm this was correct. Sadly, their response was yes the presentation we received was normal: $25 for what we got in that box NEVER AGAIN.

Basically awful. Food lukewarm, took an age to arrive. Appetizer appeared at same time as main course. Drinks at random different times, and required reminders. Place seemed unable to deal with customers they had though also didn?t have that many customers. And prices really high for very average food. Puzzled anyone could rate this place well.

What an amazing experience. One of the best places to eat in Carmel. Denis is a great owner and the service is very attentive. Definitely coming back soon!
