El Portal - Marshalltown

I hadn't been to El Portal for years, but it was just the same as I remembered. Great food, great service. I wish it was a little more cozy and less bright, but overall, it was a great place to eat.

Way too hot inside. I don't enjoy sweating while I eat. Never got my Pepsi refilled and we were there for an hour. The Pablanos dinner was good, but next time I'll get take out.

I have not been in a sit down restaurant since covid began, soooo glad this was my 1st choice! I dare anyone find anything they don't like! AMAZING!!

The food was great, service was great but the fried ice cream?? Never had it covered in corn flakes before, not my fav.

I ordered a few tacos for delivery, expecting authentic Mexican tacos with double corn tortillas as shown in the picture. However, what I received were tacos in regular store-bought corn taco shells. They were terrible and not edible. The photo on the left shows what was advertised, while the one on the right shows what I actually received. The shells were so soggy that they fell apart. It was very misleading. If you're looking for good Mexican food, I recommend going to La Caretta instead.
