Caballo De Mar - Marbella

Had the misfortune to pick this restaurant for a lunchtime meal for 12. Things didn’t start well with 10 minutes wasted putting elaborate plates on the table, and waiting 15 mins for only 2 of the 12 drinks to arrive! Bread and dips arrived -which were nice. More time was then wasted removing the elaborate plates again. Eventually after a further 20 minutes 7 of the meals arrived. We requested a serving of alioli to accompany the calamari, the first of 7 eventually arrived 20 minutes after the dish. When we questioned the wait of a further 30 minutes for the remaining meals the waiter responded with ‘I am only the f ing waiter- you better ask god!’ No way appropriate with 6 of our party being children. Pizzas arrived stone cold from another restaurant- quite clearly they had not been collected and the whole experience was dreadful. At no point was there an apology. Such a shame as with good management this place could be a gold mine with its location and views. Would highly recommend you avoid this place.

We visited here in June this year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Restaurant was airy and spacious, staff were helpful and food was excellent. The food turn around seemed quite quick, which suits me, but there was no rush for us to leave and we were allowed to enjoy a relaxed evening. We returned in September for an evening meal but were disappointed to find that the restaurant was virtually empty. The restaurant is on the beach so tends to be packed out during the day but during the evening, visitors to the harbour don’t walk round that far but seem to go to the nearest restaurants as you enter the harbour. It’s a real shame as the Caballo de Mar is really worth the money.

Lovely location. Lovely people. Overlooks both the beach and the marina. The menu had a very comprehensive list of allergens and pictures beside each items stating what allergen was present. Of course, I was very excited as I knew I would not have to explain the concept of coeliac disease again! However when I properly looked at the menu, there was gluten in most dishes, even the paella and all the steak sauces. I asked for the mussels but could not have the chips and they did not have any potatoes so I just had some vegetables. A lovely restaurant but would like more gluten free options.

First visit for lunch 3 of us selected the menu del dia 3 course for €18.95 Euro one selected from main menu. Drinks water ordered then food order taken the Prawn cocktail amazing, followed by the Sea Bass with veg and sliced potatoes followed by desserts. The Tomato soup and Pizza from main menu were delicious also. Only criticism is that the staff seemed bit confused we were given starters for another table, when we asked for the bill we got one belonging to another table, when we finally got our bill we were over charged for the soup, bill was corrected. We were given some free limoncellos to drink, while enjoying this the restaurant manager gave the Spanish male at the table behind us a cigar which was stinking, I complained to the waitress but she could not say anything as the manager had give him the cigar but the waitress opened the window next to this male. We left and another table behind the Spanish couple also left. One of the male waiters had bad bo. Will not rush back obviously the manager has no respect for other dinners in the restaurant!! No tip left.

Visited this restaurant on a night out what a great choice we made, Shen to a table and sorted our drinks promptly then ordered starter main,while waiting we were served with rolls a seafood sort of spread which was very nice,the starters arrived again well presented very tasty,if we requested more drinks we never had to wait,then the main courses arrived which we all enjoyed very much,couldn’t eat dessert as we were to full.The staff were extremely polite helpful I’d like to give special praise to (forgive me for trying to get his name right Laddi? who chatted with us for ages,a very nice man.As we’re only here for a short time I don’t think we’ll be back but in the future hopefully will return,I highly recommend this restaurant,it may not have the biggest menu but what they offer is 1st class,thank you
