Restaurant bewertenGreat burrito's for a small price! Huge portions, so you will be definitely be full after a meal here. Outside not many places to sit and next to the big road.
I had an hour to wait for my train back to Barcelona from the Atocha train station and came across this little taco place about 10 mins walk away. What a lovely surprise! I´ve been to Mexico several times and can say that this was as good as anything I tasted there, I think it´s been because everything is freshly made by Jose. He´s the owner/chef hailing from Mexico and was very friendly, taking the time to explain the food to us, and we could definitely taste the love that was put into each dish. It tasted so good, I couldn´t help being greedy and even ordered an extra burrito to takeaway for the 2.5 hour train journey home! (Well, the food was very good value for money)
Finding authentic Mexican food in Madrid is possible thanks to José Manuel Agis Saca, chef and owner of Taco Burro Maya, the newest place in the city’s taco scene. Everything is made from scratch by José, which means each tortilla is crafted with care and technique. I stopped by Taco Burro Maya for lunch one afternoon, as the relaxed, no-frills atmosphere is exactly what I wanted to enjoy a solo dining experience. The restaurant design is vibrant and colorful, and the laid-back minimalist approach allows diners to focus on the food and flavors. The restaurant has an open terrace with cool metal bistro tables, and an interior dining area features rectangular tables and bench seating. I started with crispy artisan tortilla chips topped with freshly made guacamole. The cool, creamy guacamole was perfectly seasoned with red onion and cilantro. I accompanied it with a glass of Michelada, a traditional Mexican drink made with beer, lime juice, and peppers. I love the way the salt on the rim brings out the spices in the drink. Cool and refreshing, the drink was delicious. Taco Burro Maya has so many delicious tacos, that it’s hard to choose. I settled on Chicken Tinga taco, with tender chicken breast in chipotle sauce, wrapped in a soft shell, along with Cochinita Maya taco, the same soft shell filled with juicy leg of pork macerated in achiote sauce with purple onion. I didn’t expect to enjoy such delicious Mexican cuisine in Madrid, but thankfully José has brought Mexico City to Spain. Taco Burro Maya is excellent all around, from the casual environment in the old brick building on Paseo de Santa Maria de la Cabeza to the great service. I can’t wait to go back.
