Restaurant bewertenHaving coming back from a trip to the Big Easy I must say I shouldn't have had high expectations about this place. To not offer gumbo and etouffee seems odd. The oysters were disappointing as I expected them to be cooked all the way through. Eating at Acme and Perrinos really set the standard for me. That food journey was prime. I'm sure other items hit here but don't have high expectations. Theme and decor was chill. Apparently this was on Diners Drive ins and Dives
Tried this spot wanting to try Louisiana-style comfort food. Street parking was super easy since it was a Sunday. You order at the counter and pick up when your order is called. Casual dining with 100% authentic New Orleans products. The restaurant is connected to a store that offers authentic products that you would find in New Orleans. We tried six items:1. Jambalaya- 2/5 all rice with very little shrimp and sausage.2. Popcorn shrimp- 4/5 shrimp was light and tasty the hush puppies were a tad salty very dense.3. Chile fries- 4/5 the chile was 5/5 some pasta were overly salted.4. Craw MacnCheese- 2/5 the pasta was bland needed more cheese.5. Side of fried shrimp-2/5 was seasoned nicely just to dry or overly fried.6. Jalapeño poppers- 4.5/5 Crunchy and cheesyWe should have a PoBoy.
I got gumbo for 15 dollars and the bowl was tiny and they gave me maybe half a serving of rice? The gumbo was full of bones as well. Also ordered a shrimp Po boy but was too spicy as well. I don't mind spicy but if he prevents me from eating my food then not a fan. I'd say it's more of a hipster vibes. Definitely taking advantage of the DTLA prices.
Little Jewel was solid, but the price point and portion size left me feeling unsatisfied for what I ordered. We ordered the mac and cheese and the po boy and while both tasted great, I was left wanting more given the hype. I was especially disappointed by the beignets as I've had considerably better in the Los Angeles area by places not claiming to be New Orleans cuisine.
Had a wonderful experience here! Enjoyed the shop aspect (on the side), with authentic Louisiana hush puppy batter, craft beer, cafe du monde coffee, hot sauces etc.The food was bomb, just how you’d expect at a Po’ boy place in NOLA. I got the oyster fish (fried oysters, catfish) and my date got the fried shrimp po’ boy. Both were excellent; fresh bread, solid dressings, and hefty portions. Tasted great with hot sauce! All in all a great spot that I hope continues to thrive for years to come.
