After sampling countless burger joints across our capital, he has learned a thing or two about crafting the perfect burger. He uses all his delicious insights to create something extraordinary. At the Royal Oak pub in Marylebone, Burgerac presents their burger shack.
That was by far the best burger I've ever had in London, if not in the world. A friend recommended the little pop-up at a pub called "Little Fucked." I ordered the Nabenba Nabenba. With every bite, you're meant to say the words out loud. The patty, the buns, the texture of the meat—everything is just brilliant. I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu!
My lunch at Burger Shack turned out to be the hardest test of all, as my 20 companions indulged in their massive Shack burgers, pig attacks, and cheesy fries, washed down with Meantime Pale Ale and Kopparberg ciders. Meanwhile, I anxiously awaited my “Bean Me Up” veggie burger, which was squeaking in anticipation. **Price:** The “Bean Me Up” burger is reasonably priced. **Presentation:** To be fair, the “Bean Me Up” burger looks quite appealing, despite the absence of meat. The generous bean patty topped with melted cheese sits inside a perfectly toasted golden sesame seed bun, all served on a nifty piece of greaseproof paper within a plastic basket. A solid win for visual appeal. **Toppings:** The cheese drapes over the patty and generously adheres to the top bun, creating a cohesive bite. Its mild flavor is enjoyable, but it could use a little more punch. Underneath the bean patty, there’s a thin slice of tomato, shredded iceberg lettuce, and a healthy dollop of their special burger sauce—a light and tangy twist on Thousand Island dressing—providing a classic garnish and some much-needed moisture that would typically come from a beef patty. **Bean Patty:** The bean patty in the “Bean Me Up” burger, as expected, is mostly bean-based—specifically black beans and feta cheese. The combination is well-balanced, with the semi-solid black beans creating a lovely contrast to the creaminess of the cashew and feta. There’s also a warm hint of chili that emerges after a few bites, elevating the flavor. It’s crispy on the outside, and honestly, the only thing I think it needs (besides beef) is a bit more seasoning. **Bun:** This is a fantastic example of a demi-brioche sesame seed bun. It looks great, is fresh, and wraps perfectly around the filling without falling apart. Overall, the “Bean Me Up” is a comforting delight in the relaxed atmosphere of a well-cooled pub. It compares very favorably to my favorite veggie burgers in London, specifically Burger Shack and Mr. Burgerac—I salute them!
Had a high-time dinner party here and everything felt right. good food and good service. will come back when in marylebone.
Visited many pubs in London at around 7:30pm. All of them had their kitchens closed… The Royal Oak not only had their kitchen open, but had multiple options for Sunday Roast. The service was excellent, the beer was great, and the environment was lovely. Would definitely visit again.
