Restaurant bewertenI visited the takeaway on Monday, June 13th and ordered a large battered sausage, chips, mushy peas, and a can of coke for £7.10. Unfortunately, the chips were frozen and poorly cooked, with a bland sausage. The overall quality was disappointing and felt like a rip off. The staff seemed familiar, with a lady stepping in to help the guy cooking my food. It was odd to see a sushi bar on one side and a fish bar on the other. It seems like the establishment may have changed its name from The Friar to Big Fish due to bad reviews.
A little while ago, I said how wonderful the food from here was fantastic fish and chips like it should be. Wondered if it might just be a lucky strike! Since then son Jonathan and I have been back 7 times for various pre ordered take out meals for three of us, mostly fish and chips (hoped to try deep fried cheesecake but they hadn't been able to get ingredients which was probably just as well!!! and delighted to say every time has been just as good as the first! Really really good! Well done all at the Friars. Thank you very much.
The restaurant has recently been under new management, and not only does it offer the best fish and chips in Lewes, but also incredible sushi and Korean chicken. The staff is warm and welcoming. I will definitely be going back soon!
They’ve changed their name to bIg fish and now offer sushi and Korean fried chicken as well. Really good and lovely people.
Staying with son Jonathan, we wanted fish and chips for supper. We've tried other places which were OK but a bit disappointing. Gave the Friar a go and were certainly not disappointed! Phoned order of two large and one small cod, one large and one small chips. Ready for pickup in 15 mins and, only because it was busy, only a very short wait to be served. The large cod (served with two nice big segments of fresh lemon) was a good size, the fish beautifully cooked with wonderful crispy batter -not oily at all. Chips also were good, well cooked and plenty of them. (choice of vinegar availabe). All for just less than £20 which we thought was good value for the excellent quality. Will be going to The Friar again for sure!
