Kona Islander Vacation Club

This is an apartment resort and the rooms that are available are only those that provide their own. these can vary significantly. we had luck and got a nice place with views of the sea, very clean and although small, was quite usable. the resort does not choose the units for it, a management company does. I was nervous when reading the previous reviews, but we had great customer service the couple times that we needed something and, as everyone said, the situation cannot beat.

The Kona Islander is in a great location right in the center of downtown Kona. The decor room that we stayed in was very outdated. The AC unit was very loud. The shower door was very hard to open and close. I was afraid the glass was going to break. Worst of all was the front desk hospitality. The desk was unmanned for over an hour at 9:00am on a Saturday. We waited for over an hour for someone.. One of the lobby phones goes to a voice-mail the other is not connected. We asked additional coffee and we were told to call RCI. We will stay elsewhere if we return to the Big Island. Service is most important to us when we travel.

The location was really good, wonderful ocean view, close to great restaurants and shops. The resort needs some love and care. The grounds were pretty, but the overall feeling was of neglect. Our unit was sufficient, but not well cared for. Bathroom surfaces were barely clean, edges, corners, shower walls, grout lines were quite dirty. Careful attention to detail, both inside and out would help.

The Kona Islander was in a great location being close to restaurants, the free trolley and tourist attractions. Our room was clean and tidy and a good size for two people. It had all that we needed. The pool, spa and barbecue area was good and kept clean and tidy. Take the free trolley both ways so that you know where things are as there is a large shopping area as well as some smaller ones on the route as well as a movie theatre and the Brewing Company.

Small rooms and need some repair all around. Not very much parking. Staff is never at the front desk when went up there. Had to wait for them to return. There was a phone to call if no one at desk but that just went to a voice mail. Not much good if you need immediate help.
